You really think so? You may be right. However I don't know how Miles would handle that. The argument can easily be made that in the grand scheme of winning, having a good kicking game is about as important as having a good QB, since it puts points on the board when drives stall, and dictates the opponents starting field position. So as far as injuries are concerned, although Jackson isn't the best kicker/punter in the world, he's the best we have and we can't afford to lose him. Of course Jackson's a better baseball player than kicker, so maybe that has something to do with it. Personally I think if he happens to win the starting QB spot he may not care so much about playing baseball. Then again, with that ego, he may really want that attention.
Didn't Drew Henson the Michigan QB play baseball as well when he was starting QB? I think it's possible for RP to play, but I'm not sure how much he can contribute b/c there is no way he misses any spring practice, but at least he could play after that like Jackson. Does anyone know if RP is good enough to get in the outfield as a starter? I don't know any of his numbers and have never seen him play. This may be a moot point.
Don't get me wrong, RP is a great athlete, but I think he's best at football and baseball. What he did in basketball, was due to his over-all athletic ability, but not because he is a major college prospect in basketball. And even if he was, c'mon, don't you think that's a LOT to ask from an individual??? Three sports?! It's very rare to find an athlete in ONE sport not training for that sport almost year-round... I would love to see him play baseball for us though! I don't think Miles will object. Chris Jackson is doing it.
RP was scouted by a number of major league scouts this year, so that should give you some idea about how good he is. No, he didn't get drafted, but you'll find scouts will by-pass a prospect if they feel his intensions are something other than pro baseball. With RP looking to jump-start a football career at LSU, and his sights set on making it to the NFL, perhaps it's not too hard to understand why MLB teams passed on him. After all, they may have started to learn their lesson after watching players such as Drew Henson, Matt Mauck and Ricky Williams, just to name a few, all get drafted, play in the minors, only to give up the sport and return to football.
i'd bet Les would allow RP to play baseball as well. Not a big injury risk actually nor does it become the determining factor unless a coach has a hard set rule which Miles does not. todd helton was a crappy qb and turned out to be an excellent hitter.
No... he has said numerous times that he don't want to... I mean I hope i am wrong, b/c we need the help, but the only grass RP will be grazing is that of Tiger Stadium
