Why should we not be excited that we won last night? I was also upset over the soft defense, but I honestly don't see us facing another passing offense like the one we saw last night. There were so many other areas where there was great improvement over last year! What about Jamarcus Russell stepping up and leading HIS team to victory? What about Skyler's ankle no longer slowing him down (he could run the reverse last night)? What about our special teams play? What about Early Doucet reaching down inside of his heart and making the game-winning catch? What about the fact that we are the #3 team in the nation with two weeks to prepare for Tennessee? I feel better today than I did after that debacle that was the 2004 Oregon State game!
In that same light, even if LSU would have lost, we'd still have to keep things in perspective. I was reading the SI Rick Reilly article on the plane ride home today, and I'm sure you've seen it, but the Russell quote in there about "It's just a game" and talking about there are bigger things in life was really good. I'm happy for him and the team that they got the win. I really liked that Russell quote though. More people should understand that whethere they are players or fans. At the end of the day, your not reinventing the wheel, your just playing a game.:geauxtige
I can only speak for myself, but I might rather another hurricane than a return to Lou Tepper defense with Nick Saban's talent.
You're right scrappy. In the grand scheme of things last nights game was a pimple on an elephants butt. But it gave Tiger fans four hours diversion from the tragedy that surrounds them. As we all know, Tiger fans are passionate and have been known to voice their opinions and displeasure when the results don't please them. I wasn't happy with the way our secondary played and the fact that we couldn't put consistent pressure on Keller. But when the final gun went off we came away with a W and that's what counts. We've got two weeks to regroup and readjust before we take the field against the Vols. I expect to see considerable improvement in not only defensive game planning but also in executing it.
Def was a banner weekend though for SELA football fans. The Saints and Tigahs got big wins. I was happy for both. The Tigers need to improve soon though. Leak could go nuts on that secondary if they dont watch it. But, it was just game 1, there is time for improvement.
Ditto that! After the game, I was saying the same thing to one of my LSU buddies here in Mobile. I still feel better about this team than I have in a long time. I think this is a very good team with a defense that still has some catching up to do. Is that really so bad? The defense was on the field a TON in the second half, and it showed. I didnt like the game-plan, I didnt like the perceived lack of in-game adjustments, but we were facing a pretty damn good offense in our first game of the year under a first year coordinator. I am optimistic, though perhaps cautiously, that this defense will come around. I dont see them being a top 5 defense, and maybe not even top 10 or top 15 like we are used to. But you know what? You dont have to have a top 10 defense to win a national title- just ask USC.
