Manning is a good quarterback, but nowhere even remotely close to being the best ever. Montana was much better, so was Bradshaw. I think Aikman and Marino were better also. I'd even throw Staubach in there too. I just don't understand this ESPN 'greatest ever' talk. He is far from being that.
I read that article and love how the writer gives Manning the pass by letting the saints enjoy their moment. I'll say it now. He's a puss and a crybaby. That's the reason. He didn't have to go over there and hug anybody and pretend to be happy for them. Just could've acted like a man and shook hands or offered a "good game" between two competitors. Instead, he acted like a teenage girl. Crybaby
he passes the eye test. its because of all the stuff he does at the line of scrimmage, which most of it is a decoy anyway. it makes him look like he is just breaking down the defense before every snap.
the strongest arguments for manning are that this team would have not even made the playoffs without him (same could be said for brees). but many of those you listed could have been replaced on their teams, particularly aikman and bradshaw. also i think the qb is even more important now than it was 10 yrs ago. how many times did manning hand the ball off?
do you think Williams showed Manning pass defense looks because he knew he was going to check the play to a run?
he was killing us. i was thinking the same thing. clearly williams did the right thing by giving manning constant different looks. mostly more nickel it seemed forcing them to run the ball. they were not going to get beat up top. the garcon td was just busted coverage on a backup corner and lost alabama safety.
totally agree on the garcon TD, don't think that happens on greer (i think he was the one out). addai would've been the MVP had the colts won. i would feel bad for the guy if he didn't already have a ring. back to peyton, i've always liked him. if the saints are out of it, i usually cheer for the colts which is perenially a class organization. i really don't like eli, but i like peyton and i grew up listening to archie on the radio as the saints play by play guy. while i've lived in BR off and on since 94, i didn't grow up during archie's years at ole miss and never got into the hatred of the manning family. that said, this team doesn't go 8-8 without brees. sometimes things work out just the way they are supposed to. in a 1/3 direct way and 2/3 indirect way, nick saban has had a hand in 1 saints championship season and 2 LSU NC seasons. you can't write that kind of stuff.
