The annual hill climb has been going on for a few days now....if you've never seen it, these are some guys who have by-God got a pair! Put this thing on full screen and put yourself in the car....its at about the 5:30 mark when he clears the timberline that it really starts to get hairy. And some of the spectators are as crazy as the drivers to put themselves where they are.

With the exception of one year (1981 - 82), I've been here since 1972, I've been to the summit of Pikes Peak twice. The first time I drove. NEVER AGAIN!! The second time my family was visiting and we rode the cog way to the summit. The view from my living room window is good enough for me.

Went up by way of the cog tram on my only visit back in the 70's. That road is totally unnerving even on video....how do they not have guardrails except for on switchbacks?

Don't know. Can't find statistics for fatal crashes, but I'm seeing a lot of driver reviews that indicate its safer to drive than it looks. I know the speed limit is 25 and obviously the entire road (think its 19 miles) is a no passing zone. Several sites say the Hill Climb race has had 7 fatalities in its history; that seems damn low.

Yeah, at that speed, those aluminum guard rails ain't gonna do shit to keep anyone from flying off the side of the mountain.

I’ve been to Colorado Springs twice. Plus my sister lives in Castle Rock. Was there last summer for her wedding. Not sure if I could live there, although the legalized weed is nice. How are you an LSU fan? I ask because you’ve been in Colorado for so long.

I was born & raised in SW La. I left in 1966 when I joined the USAF. I've been back several times for weddings & funerals. One memorable time was in 2003 when a buddy of mine got some tickets to a LSU game. Guess which one? Yep, Florida the only game we lost that year. I wonder why I haven't been invited back since lol.
