Most LSU fans don't want "only" conference champions picked in the top 4. That's because of the success the SEC has had in the last decade where our second place team has been better than most conference champions. That attitude may change if the SEC beats each other up and can only place it's champion among the top 4. A 1 loss SEC champion combined with a second place team with 2 or more losses would change things up quite a bit.
I don't like the idea of only conference champions either. I want it to be the 4 best teams, no matter how many from a conference. How they determine those 4,.. well, it'll probably suck bad, and we'll be stuck with it for a while. I think, right off the bat, there will be so much howling, and so much money to be gained, that they will soon find a way to expand to 8. Personally, I still like the idea of 5 highest rated champs + Next 3 highest rated. If that means the SEC or PAC has 3 or 4 teams among the 8,.. why not?

Sources told ESPN that under the recommended model, the four teams would be selected by a committee that would consider certain criteria such as conference championships and strength of schedule.... ....The commissioners' consensus must be approved by the BCS presidential oversight committee, which meets June 26 in Washington D.C. If approved, the four-team playoff would replace the BCS system, which has been in place since 1998....
