    Play calling

Your options in play calling are reduced tremendously when the quarterback cannot hit his receiver long. He has two open receivers about 10 yards away, his brain cannot decide which to throw to so he throws between them. He throws a lateral to a back swinging out of the back field and misses him so he loses ten yards. All he can do is hand off, Texas know this so they are shooting the gaps on almost every play.
Imagine yourself the defensive coordinator for Texas, would you play to stop LSU's passing game or the run? What passing game you ask? Exactly!
