If they were smart about it, the would only play it if needed; ie 3 undefeated teams from BCS conferences. Not sure how that could be done fron a logistics standpoint, but I'm sure it could be worked out.

Ok...I just read it. It was an editorial, not a "news event". ...and what he's saying that most college presidents are still against a playoff....there IS a way to talk to these self-righteous, holier than thou people...

All major college football fans boycot ONE home game per season until the message is heard and understood. Seeing (insert favorite home stadium name) Stadium virutally empty, and impacting the schools finances by ONE game would MAKE them listen and would definitely hit them where they live. ONE game....say, against SW Arkansas PolyVoTech. (Any idea how much revenue ONE home game at LSU, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, OU, etc etc generates?) If we want a playoff system implemented, that is the quickest route to getting it accomplished. I'm thinking of undertaking the starting of this myself. Anyone wishing to copy/paste this on other schools' fan forums, feel welcome.:thumb:

Right.... Boycott a weekend of LSU football on a Saturday in the fall. Deprive yourself of one of the few and finest weekends of the year you will experience. No way, LSU fans will not do this, much less fans of other schools. Very silly idea imo.

I agree, it would never work. Not only for the reasons LSUGrad mentions, but also because you could never get THAT many people to agree to do it.

...the journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step...

....it is amazing what happens when a cause is undertaken and understood....

I never said it would be easy, as most things that are worthwhile seldom come easily. ONE game a year. ONE game against a school that will get hammered anyways...ONE game where the outcome is pretty much determined by the time the ink is dry on the contract...

also would have to be HIGHLY visible to all...and the internet provides that. Signs at games and GAMEDAY posting the web address. Free advertising. That's the ticket!

I still don't understand why these bowls would be so upset with a playoff. They could still use the bowl games in a playoff format and the final game being rotated to the big 4 now. Or the 'plus one' game. However it is changed the bowls could still have meaning if they are used to work up to a championship game.

Because fans will not follow their team around the country as they go from bowl game to playoff game to semifinal to final etc. Playoff means end of bowl games, for that reason and many others. If you did a playoff it would have to be like NFL where the higher seeded team hosted the game, or like BBALL where you had a regional host - but more likely it would be the NFL system.

The plus one would be the best solution IMO, but contracts already signed means that couldn't possibly happen for the next 6 or 7 years - unless they mutually decided to scrap the contracts - not likely.
