Ok...no, I didn't miss what you were saying, I just took it in a different direction. And as to why I wouldn't have the top 8 playing home games in the first round, it's a question of who is "deserving". In this fantasy playoff, would Boise St. "deserve" to host Louisville in their first round game? Would Utah "deserve" to host LSU? Take the subjectivity out of it is all I'm trying to do by putting the games at "neutral" sites. Now, I'd much prefer YOUR plan than the one we now have....by a long shot.
Good points A WIN-WIN situation is a mandatory for a true solution ... and as Thorny points out ... attendance could be a problem for 4 weeks during the holidays ... but as the sites will be reasonably close for most teams ... I'm guessing that attendance could exceed 50% for most every game with sellouts for many ... with guaranteed sell-outs for final 8 games This "thorny" problem could be solved by careful planning and selection ... The Top 8 Playoff Scenario with other Bowl games is a novel idea ... but with the "WIN WIN" idea ... Little Schools LOSE OUT HERE ... there are 117 teams and every team except the worse 25% could possibly get a team ranked in the Top 32 ... What is chance of a Bottom Half College FB Team (ranked #50 to #117) actually making the BCS Top 8 ... Can you say snowball's chance in hell ... What is that same team's chance to make the Top 24 ... or Top 32 ... WIN-WIN or it's a sin Now ... a Top 24 or Top 32 playoff ... with a smattering of a few bowls for the less fortunate ... if you really wanna go bananas ... similar to the NIT Charity system in BB ... would put everyone in a win-win position ... all 117 teams could have a chance to go bowling ... but I wonder how many fans teams like ULL or ULM would send to one of these "NIT-type also ran Charity" bowls. The "home-game" scenario for "bye-teams" for a limited number of games ... perhaps second round games (week of Dec 9th) and is interesting but only possible with a 32-team playoff ... Bowl Cities get left out
you add 4 weeks to the season for a playoff and you add 4 more chances for players to get injured.. you would see alot of players refusing to play to avoid the chance of injury if they feel they will be drafted..
:cuss: This is the absolute most absurd argument against a playoff that exsists. $hit, you have a chance getting injured getting out of bed in the morning. You don't see high school players with a chance at a college scholarship refusing to play in the high school playoffs because "they might get injured", do you? You don't have pro players refusing to play in the playoffs because "they might get injured" and shorten a career, do you? You don't have any argument about players playing in playoffs in any other division in college football and absolutely NONE would exsist in Division 1A, either. All other levels of football from high school to the pros play for the championship ON THE FIELD....with the glaring exception of NCAA Division 1A Football.:dis:
F***ING A. This whole argument is defeated by the fact that Basketball and the NFL manage to make it work.
Say what you want, i guaruntee you that SOME players would opt out of playing playoff games if they are planning to leave early or if they are an early rounder... especially those that may be banged up and dont want to risk further injury... most of the guys who are going into the draft are worried more about their draft status from workouts and the combine than about winning a championship in college.
Maybe, but that number will be extremely low and would speak alot to a guy's character. Imagine telling your teammates: "Sorry guys, I'm not going to help you win a championship. I'm more concerned about my career in the NFL". Kinda lame don'tcha think? In addition, don't you think they'd want to improve their draft status by PERFORMING on a grand stage when everyone's watching? Only someone that lacks confidence in their abilities would pass on that chance
Ok, guys. I posted this on a different thread and now I'm going to post it here. I stole it from a thread that was actually started last year about this time whenever it looked like LSU was going to get left out of the Sugar Bowl. Enjoy:thumb: http://www.sportsfansofamerica.com/FansInAction/Football/playoffs1.htm
One other Scenerio I would prefer a 16 game playoff .... :thumb: .. #1- Have 11 conference playoff (acc, big east, big 10, big 12, c-usa, mac, mid-west, pac 10, sec, sun belt and wac)... This would give us 11 of the 16 teams... These games would be played at the individual conference sites #2- Select 5 at large teams ... based on POWER ratings ... These would be seeded LOWER .. and could come from a LOOSER in the conf. championship .. or even from a non-conf championship player (like  this year...) #3- Select the OLDER low level bowls (like Sun Holiday, Outback, Liberty, Music City, Peach Sun, Independence) to host the FIRST ROUND .. where 1st. seed plays 16th. seed, etc... for 8 games at the 8 selected sites... #4- Round 2 would have 4 games ... use Cotton, Capitol one, Gator (bigger bowl games) PLUS ONE BCS bowl (example Fiesta would be in round 2 this year .. but host the NC game next year ... like current rotation) #5- Round 3 would have 2 games ... use 2 of 3 remaining BCS bowls (Sugar and Orange in rotation with Rose and Fiesta like today..) #6- Round 4 would have the NC game at the Rose .. which would be in rotation .. it would fall to Round 2 next year.. etc... Force NDame (and I like them except when they play an SEC team) .. to join the Big 10 or they are OUT... Force ALL conf's to have a Championship Game (for equity purposes ... and $$$$'s) ,,,
The only way a playoff would be feasible and wouldnt raise the ire of players.. is to have bcs+1.. thats 1 and 4 in a bowl, and 2 and 3 in a bowl.. then winner plays in the championship...
