From yesterday evening. Emma and I went to the public pier in Madisonville about 10 min from the apt. In a couple of hours we caught about 30. Good times and easy to do!

Emma enjoying the fruits of her labor. She caught em and cooked em. Then she even cleaned a few for me. Man my life is good!

I've never tried gar, but I know some people who say it is really good. Did you eat it?

It's very good. We used to catch some 150 lbs plus in White Lake in trammel nets.

To clean them we'd use vise grips to hold the dorsal fin then take a hatchet and start whacking from the dorsal fin forward. After taking off the scales on top, we'd run a knife to separate the rest from top down on the sides.

Chill it then have a butcher shop cut it into steaks then throw it on the pit.

A more popular method is gar fish balls though I've never tried them nor do I know how they're prepared.
