Back in the early 80's there was a store on top of the hill on Highland Road north of campus (past the bars) that always had a chalkboard easel out front on the sidewalk advertising what fish they had. I remember it saying Gar Balls and Goo (Gasper Goo) on more than one occasion.

I know some guys who fish the spillway in Melville and catch ice chests full of goo. They say the goo are a blast to catch- put up a heckuva fight.

Here's a sturgeon that was caught about 5 miles from my office (Lake Oswego, OR) a couple years ago. Estimated at 11 feet and a bit over a 1,000 pounds. Nice size for a freshwater fish. Good eating too. However, if it's over 8 feet or under 4 feet you have to let them go.

One of these guys use to work in the same office with my wife. That's how I go the pic!

Still, like they say......... A bad day fishing is still better than a good day doing anything else.

I'm retiring the end of the year and the first project is building a couple new flyrods for my wife and me.

As far as sturgeon fishing up here goes, some of the old timers say they've found some up to 20 feet long. I think 18' was documented back in the 1800s.

The classic old fisherman stories goes something like this: Guy hooks into a BIG one and has to use a team of horses to pull it in, only to have the sturgeon pull the horses in the river and drown the horses. Great story over a few brews, never documented to the best of my knowledge. LOL

If you're interested, here's a link with lots of pics of what freshwater fishing looks like in the Northwest. Personally, I fish for trout and steelhead, nothing like a steelie on a dry fly!!!! Gives you an opportunity to find out if you are a real fisherman or not. I'd say most of the time I'm not...... LOL
