Can't say I agree. Let's pretend that you take away the minor league and make college baseball MLB's "minor league." It would increase the talent level 5 fold. LSU baseball is great and everyone has a great time, but 98% of the general public has absolutely 0 clue about college baseball (including me).
We also would have had all of our best signees playing in the Box instead of playing in Sioux Falls and places like that.

If I'm not mistaken they sued Ole Miss along with the NCAA and the clearinghouse in particular, taking the decision out of OM's hands as far as having to admit him. But your right, I'd keep him off the practice field until ordered to let him play.
Jerrell is probably a really good player, too, but if he can't read, he can't go to college, Mrs. Powe. I see semi-pro football in his future, maybe a shot at Arena football with a change of catching an NFL scouts eye.
He does have the chance to attend Ole Piss. NCAA just won't let him on the practice field to play this season.
I don't see your point. Looking at the situation, he will probably never attend college. He can't read. It's not like he just didn't try in High School, it's obvious he has issues that go beyond playing football.
It is in regards to this quote by his mother "“I didn’t know until he was almost finished (with high school) he wasn’t getting the education he should have gotten,” Shirley Powe said in court papers. “Coach Boyles and Mr. Crager helped him at least get enough schooling to be able to go to college. “Jerrell really is a good child but he just can’t read. Please give him this chance to attend Ole Miss.” Yes, she admits that he can't read. However, the clearinghouse was the one that chose to not allow Powe to play. I don't think Ole Miss declined his application.
More on the soap opera that never seems to end. Personally, I think they should file suit to get the kid into Harvard. Might as well go for broke, after all, it doesn't have anything to do with football, it's all about getting this guy an education.......well, maybe not. Looks like the last quote below sums it all up. Link
