Preason rankings already? LSU #11

I think #11 is good. I think its right around where yall ended this year, am I right?
I think #4 is too high for the Vols.........we play better as the underdog!!! I dont like their heads getting big!

Only if the team on top lives up to thier #1 ranking. USC did win out. That is not easy, no matter who you play.

My guess is that would be a good majority of the fans of about 116 teams.

The bias is why a strength of schedule and a limited margin of victory / loss (27 points sound fair?) factors are needed to be included in any BCS re-fomulation. The Good Guys lost two games in the last minute against Top 10 finishers, plus the pasting by another Top Ten finisher. LSU was rewarded with a drop in the final polls to # 16. Michigan was defeated by unranked Notre Dame, drilled by Ohio State, and by Texas in the same manner we did in the bowl game. Michigan's reward? No change from their #12 ranking. Michigan is popular team nationally and has been for some time. A team has a run like that (35 or so years?) and the benefits roll in that a schedule factor and margin of victory / loss credit might knock out. In turn, a change in the BCS rankings and the final polls.

Bias allows for short term memories with teams like Florida State, and a run of sub-Bowden (later career) teams, or Miami getting a media mulligan. Virginia Tech, for example, a relative new kid on the block and ignored for much of the season due to the collapse in 2003. It took beating UVa, Miami, and playing Auburn close to regain pre-season attention for a run at the 2005 title. Biases will prevent Texas Tech, for example, from playing in the Rose Bowl next year, regardless of how they finish. A one loss USC, Oklahoma, Michigan, or Notre Dame will finish ahead of an undefeated team that is unranked/ low-ranked pre-season regardless of who they are!

Biases allow the creation of Florida being a long time national power. If one defines "long-time" going back to 1990... Yes, preseason polls are for the birds. Yes, the first polls shouldn't come out until October 1. But more importantly, yes, biases play a big role in the pre-season ranks. We're fortunate, one sportswriter's preseason # 11 rank will probably be lower than the Coaches or AP's preseason. Bias can hurt, right Aubie?

Yes, but it does matter.....if they win out....they go on while teams that also win our but werent pre-season material lose out

Preseason polls and all the preseason magazines published are merely the fluff that gets the fans blood pumping. Personally I don't mind looking at them. Whether they show bias or not, they do give some insight as to how some think a season might go.
