While I understand it will never happen again, our founding fathers believed that voters should have a stake in the system. That’s why the states put property holding and other limits on the franchise. This is part the final rush to the dismantling of the structure that allowed our country to become great. The erosion of the value of the vote is partially responsible for the decrease in percentage of voters and the diminishing quality of the candidates. I hate to seem pessimistic but we need significant changes in the outlook and attitudes of the people we are screwed.
