I like the purple jerseys better! I wish they would wear them all the time but the white jerseys are TRADITIONAL! (Which is what LSU is all about!)
I like that idea. Don't mess with our tradition except homecoming. White for SEC opponents. Purple for Non-SEC opponents. Gold for homecoming (with white helmets). I can live with that!
Technically, you are correct. The original, official colors of LSU are blue and white. Purple and gold were adopted as the colors, however, a very long time ago. Technically, you too, are correct. The original gold was known as "Old Gold", as seen in the previous incarnation of the band uniforms and the football pants of say the 1958 championship team. The current "gold" as you refer to it is technically called Green Bay Gold. So, yes, in name only, it is gold. Never. "Gold" or not, it is still bright yellow and is still hideous. True, I do not wish to look like multiple other schools. My point was merely from a visually appealing stance. If we want to stand out from those other schools, why not bring back the Old Gold or adopt some other "unique" version of gold that isn't so gaudy?
Well, outside of Oregon State last year, I don't recall playing any real good teams when we wore purple jerseys. I think it's kind of easy to say, "we play good in purple jerseys" when our competition in those games over-all has been less than stellar.
I don't think it was a superstition thing or considered bad luck, it's just that the purple jersey thing occurred during the worst years of Tiger football. We should always have white jerseys and gold pants for SEC games and traditional rivals. Experimenting is cool for cupcakes. I'ld like to see white pants with white jerseys. I also liked the purple pants.
But didn't we were purple jerseys in the mid-to-late '80's??? We won 2 SEC championships during that time, so I don't really consider it to be during the worst years.
