Well, I guess the entire quote was taken out of context because just reading the quote out of context was a little wierd and had me worried of why he would throw those names out there. I feel a little better now.
It would be foolish to risk further injury to Russell if he is not recovered. Flynn can probably handle the job. And if Flynn goes down, it would be foolish to take the redshirt off Perrilloux for a quarter or two of PT. So, . . . that would mean playing a walk-on quarterback who may know the offense well enough from practice to conduct a running and passing game. Or play a more talented former high-school quarterback who may be unable to master the entire offense in time. That would be: WR Skyler Green S Laron Landry P/K Chris Jackson RB Shyrone Carey CB Ronnie Prude I think Landry and Prude will be needed elsewhere and know nothing of the offense. Jackson will also know nothing of the offense and needs to focus on his kicking. If Flynn goes down, LSU might just go to a running offense with a running quarterback like Skyler or Carey, both of whom can throw well enough in a emergency. At least they know the offense. Or maybe a walk-on quarterback gets his big chance to dress and play in a Bowl game.
I agree Red, no way do you risk further injury to JR if he isn't cleared. And equally so about taking the redshirt off of RP. I think the odds are pretty low that Flynn and Welker go down in the same game, though stranger things have certainly happened. I'm kinda chuckling at the idea of seeing LSU run the option for a quarter. Maybe we could dress out big Herman Johnson in JR's jersey if JR's hurt. That way, if we lost both QB's, they'd at least think JR is playing and respect the pass a bit. :hihi: :thumb:
As posted above, Early Doucet played QB in HS and I believe that Joe Addai did as well; here is the info on our "unknown" backup QB: 12 Welker, James QB 6-3 225 So. VR Tarzana, Calif. ( Notre Dame HS)
