Flynn always has the option to transfer to a non-Div 1A school without penalty. A new rule potentially gives him another option. If a player finishes his undergraduate degree and has eligibility left, he may now transfer without penalty to another div 1A school. I would guess Flynn is on track to graduate in 4 years, so...

From an academic standpoint the intent of the new rule is good. Why should an athlete who has graduated have artificially imposed restrictions on where he can persue his graduate degree. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. As the attached commentary points out, a free agent market of sorts would be created. Whose interests should take precedence: the athlete's or the school's?

Strange new NCAA transfer rule has everybody saying 'What??'

The rule just passed in late April and is in effect now. However, the NCAA has a review/appeal process of sorts that could abort it at least temporarily. If 100 ADs (remember this covers all sports, so Div 1A is quite large in this context) formally object within the first 60 days, then the rule is suspended until the committee that created it reviews it and makes a final ruling. If less than 100 object, but more than x (I don't remember the number, it may be something like 40), then it goes back to committee for review, but the rule is not suspended.
