When and how do you apply for tickets to road games for the upcoming football season. Is it too late?

One way to get tickets is buy the other teams season tickets keep the good one and sell the rest for a nice profit.

Thats if you've got enough cash to put up front, which I do not.

Last year, I went to the Arizona game. We had to wait until very late July to buy those tickets from LSU.

    or,

If you're going to a game that's not a sell out (e.g. Mississippi State last year), buy tickets when you get there. There were plenty of State fans selling their tickets last year.

    or,

Contact the other teams ticket office and buy individual game tickets from them (also a good way to get LSU home game tickets, except you have to sit with the enemy)

If you are not a season ticketholder, you'll have to wait till this summer when individual game tickets go on sale. You may not even get an opportunity to purchase some away games ... it'll depend on how many are purchased by season ticketholders.
