Not sure what game you watched, but there was a lot of effective disguising of the blitz. There were also lots of substitutions. Go look at the game log, we subbed in a lot of people.
They mentioned on the broadcast last night that the players had lost, ON AVERAGE, SEVEN POUNDS since Katrina. Not sure of the root cause (probably a lot of factors), but that's a big, big weight loss.
It was definately a factor. The commentator last night said the entire team averaged 7lbs of weight loss in the two weeks after Katrina. That's an amazing statistic and clear evidence their daily routine and personal mental health was extremely disrupted. It was definately a factor, but not the sole reason.
I was thinking specifically of the corner blitzes that were almost always quite obvious, as with the inside LB blitzes. The disguises were in formations and movement along the line. I just thought it was odd that I could figure out who was going to blitz pretty easily, which isn't often the case! Glad there were that many substitutions...that's why I emphasized SEEM.
nolimit I don't believe that one bit. I talked to a few and many weren't even really worried about it cuase Like they said what good does that do? nothing really. oh and we did sub a lot in the secondary. no wheres else really. pesonally i think we just were tired because our o kept going 3 and out all fricken game. just look at the TOP stat.
Defense was better. It's still not there, though. Several times defenders were clearly confused about where to line up and UT blew two sure TDs when amazingly wide-open receivers droped passes. I think our big, strong, fast defense is not yet comfortable with the new defense. It's hard to judge the defense itself when it is apparent that the players themselves are blowing a lot of plays. If LSU had opened against four unranked cupcakes (like Auburn, Georgia, and Bama) proficiency would have come along better, perhaps. But it needs to come along. The coaches. Both. The guy had already blown a valuable scoring opportunity because "I was thinking about scoring, not about the clock". Later he had thrown a costly TD interception. Such a poor game manager must be fed a simple game plan, just like last year. Yes, they dumbed it down for him. But it just made it more difficult for him, when they only passed on obvious passing downs. Yes, the defense was out there too long and most of the cramps were defensive. But they also failed to hydrate themselves properly. Some coach and trainer needs their butts kicked for not making the players drink properly in the kind of heat like we had last night. In the depth chart, yes. Among the coaches, not a chance. Tennessee brought in a effective quarterback when their quarterback couldn't produce. LSU didn't. We will see. If the coaches don't learn, they will be history soon and nobody knows it better than the coaches. This team will improve and probably finish 9-2 like most of us predicted. Probably not. Instead of some opening patsies to work out problems against, Miles has had three games moved or cancelled and opened against two highly-ranked teams under trying personal circumstances for this team. We need to cut these guys a certain amount of slack. LSU started right out with the meat of our schedule. Much of the Top-25 have not played a single ranked team, yet. I'm giving him the whole season before judging him as a coach. He's going to be here anyway, might as well get used to it.
Conditioning was questioned by many after fan day when players were walking or jogging slowly back to the huddle, hands on hips etc. This team has no intensity. Hasn't had it since Saban left. It's going to be one long a## year.
