purely speculation....but if true, skip is a pawn in the saban/sexton/nuttjob game. why else would nutt be a candidate? shirley, we aren't going to consider him unless we are a down to very few choices, which aint gonna happen. Nick wouldn't throw out a name based on Sexton's advice now would he? But hey we were the pawns for the last few weeks, don't ask me. Saban would never use anyone for he or his agent's benefit.... would he? That poses the question brought up on the local radio today....most think Saban's own ego/legacy would supercede LSU's best interest when recommending replacements whether intentional or not. I can't buy it or maybe i just dont wanna believe it. I have much more faith in Nick than that. I'd trust his list with my soul, naive or not. though there are many examples in the past of coaches or AD's going to competing schools who refer lesser qualified people for their own benefit. Bill Arnsparger goes to florida yet referred Mike Archer. there are tons of examples which escape my small brain. chime in if you wish.
No disrespect intended, but why should anyone from Louisville expect to hold onto anything? They have had a great year. They are a great basketball school, but this is football and football in the South no less, the deep South. I just don't get it. OTOH, I can see where they'd be pissed about losing their coach so soon after he told boosters he would be sticking around if that is what he actually said.
Then slap him silly. Skip needs to be loyal to the boosters and the alums before he is to a departing coach. Nothing against Saban of course. This is big business. Nothing to play around with.
Rich Rodriguez was caught cheating on his wife with two women in WV. He reportatly spent the week prior to the Pittsburgh game living out of his office on campus. I don't think that this guy would do very good down here.
If you are suggesting that cheating on your wife should disqualify a coach from a job, then you are going to disqualify an awful lot of coaches!
At the same time? Nice. I like the guy more already. If you're going to cheat on your wife, better make it worthwhile. Back to the subject.. I really like Ferentz. Very Saban-esque, which I think is good for this program (no-nonsense, discipline-oriented guy). Let me ask everyone this. What do you think was the more important quality of Saban's that lead to his success: his ability to coach on gameday or his ability to recruit? Most everyone seems to be evaluating coaches based on their gameday coaching.. I think their ability to recruit LA/TX/south MS/FL will be even more important. That's still the name of the game in college FB.. bringing in quality kids. Based on what I've seen, my top 3 are Ferentz/Tedford/Del Rio. I think any of these 3 guys could keep the LA recruiting fence intact.
Houston Nutt being a razorback fan, i would like houston nutt to be LSU's numero uno candidate. but you'll have to become content with finishing second or third in the SEC west every year and vying for a shot at playing in the independence or music city bowl at best.
It didn't work out for MSU when they trusted Saban's list when he recommended Bobby Williams. It looks like Skip is handling it well. I trust Skip. It is his job to get the best fit for LSU. Saban's judgement may be clouded by loyalty. Skip will look at the big picture.
