You have a very good memory- that was last year when I'd said he'd be special- he hadn't even gotten in a game yet. As far as VT, It's hard to tell just how good they are against such a dominating performance. I think they are better than we allowed them to be cause we jumped on them out of the gates both offensively and defensively; however, given they struggled with ECU last week, I surely don't think, in fact, I know they aren't a Top 10 team. People want to say that we beat a #9 team but that #9 ranking is based on a preseason poll. I know that sounds, "Duh" but the projection is only that, and is why we play out the season and see who's really ranked where. While we have shown we deserve our preseason ranking, they haven't. It's hard to tell how good a team really is this early. Look at Bama- last year Bama beat Vandy, at home, 13-10. This year, on the road, Bama beats them 24-10. Is the "Million dolla man's" defense the same as it was with Shula; and the offense only 11 points better? Y'all ain't gettin too much bang for ya bucks. I know it's different teams/venues, etc.....couldn't resist. :thumb:
 I've come away from the first two weeks impressed with the OL. Remember my complaints about that group and specifically, the coach?!? Two games into the season, over 500 yards rushing. The special teams, coached by former AU player Ron Middleton, has done very, very well. Especially in kick returns. I'm seeing 60 minutes of play. Hell, combine 4 games together in the last few seasons and I couldn't say that a lot of the time. I realize you haven't had a chance to watch as much as I have with Bama, but, like Keiland, you'll be impressed with Terry Grant. Great vision, speed...I'm still trying to figure out who to compare him to...but, he is young. As to the defense, as much as people (myself included) pointed to the combination of Nickson and Bennett, both were virtually shut down Saturday. Nickson, on the second snap from scrimmage. Bennett held to less than 60 yards receiving. The defense question will be better answered next Sunday. 6-4 on my picks this week...geez. At least, I didn't put any money out yesterday morning...though, it was tempting.
Random Thoughts: 1) LSU was very impressive. The attitude/confidence level was outstanding for a "game 2" and it was obvious Jimbo wasn't there to call plays. 2) The upcoming Michigan/Notre Dame game is now all set up. Fans from both schools will be able to get together and talk about the good 'ol days... to the point that even a Bama fan would be jealous. At the very least, the UM/ND game should set a record for alcohol consumption. 3) It will be entertaining to read how Auburn really didn't lose. 4) Someone needs to beat Oklahoma. If they keep winning, the AP will have no choice but to award USC another Championship.
Georgia simply did not make the plays that were there for the taking. Examples: When you have your RB being covered by linebacker, and you gain 7 yards of separation with no DBs within 25 yards, you can't overthrow the ball. When you hit your receivers in the numbers in the endzone, they have to hold onto the ball. You simply can't have an OFF game in the SEC and still expect to win.
Did you see the ref just standing there watching it until the Penn State player jumped up and started fighting back. The two ND players should have been thrown out of the game. It was a mugging. I would not be surprised if those two ND players have arrest records.
Found a youtube on the incident I'd mentioned. Look how classless they are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5sxFegnxMk&NR=1
from that vid, all it looked like was two nd players holding down a psu player. didnt see any punches thrown.
auburn has serious probs on O, but their d is as good as ever and they can beat lsu. usc can come in here and win too, but i agree with chip, uga lost it more than usc won it.
are you sure you saw the same vid i did? punches thrown or not, it looked a bit overzealous by the irish. and if it wasn't inappropriate, why did the referee intervene and blow his whistle? and why was the ref separating one of the irish from the lion? and why was the lion so belligerent when he got up? i mean, damn, i thought he was going to punch his his teammate. punches thrown or not, something was not right in those few seconds. and for the record, i think most will agree, that there is no place for that type of behavior in college football.
