If any coach could win at UGA, then why didn't they for 20 years? Fact is, he brought them to a level that they hadn't found since 1982
I'm not saying any coach could win. Even at a great program, it takes a good coach to be able to win consistently. During the 90's, LSU had plenty of things that the top programs had, we just lacked coaching. All I'm saying is that it doesn't take a great coach. Lots of coaches at smaller universities are good enough to do the same thing, but can't because of the university they are at. A great coach can win anywhere.
Did you ever stop to think that those coaches are the reason for UGA and UT continuing to be sustained at that top-level place? I get what you are saying but still see not any reason whatsoever that Tubs should be placed anywhere near the #3 spot in any poll.
What you saw from Tubby last year is what you may have seen out of Dinardo had he grown the nuts to send Lou Tepper back to the Big 10. Tubby (or someone) sent inferior assistants packing and brought in coaches. Sorry Auburn haters, but you cannot improve on 12-0.
If you don't see Tubs being anywhere near #3 then you have to see my point about coaches not being the only reason their programs succeed. I put Tubberville as number 6, yet he managed to go 12-0 last year. There was alot of factors outside of his coaching ability that lead to that. Thus, a program's success isn't necessarily due to superior coaching.
An absolute ranking is too subjective, but the SEC coaches fall out into three tiers most of us can agree on. SEC championship winners Spurrier Richt Fulmer Tuberville Winning record in the upper tier of a BCS conference Miles Meyer Shula Nutt Struggling Div-I record Croom Orgeron Brooks Johnson
I don't think your argument holds much weight, as there are numerous examples of very well known football programs that have shown the opposite. Oklahoma - certainly had a drop off between Switzer and Stoops Chuck Fairbanks 49-18-1 .728 Barry Switzer 157-29-4 .837 Gary Gibbs 44-23-2 .652 Howard Schnellenberger 5-5 .500 John Blake 12-22 .353 Bob Stoops 67-12 .848 Florida - big drop off after Spurrier Spurrier 122-27-1 .818 Zook 23-15 .605 Alabama, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Southern Cal - All more of the same.
Don't tell any of the Green Bay fans here in ATL, but I agree... runs a clean program and has been a winner ever since he showed up in Athens. It really hard to say that he is the best coach in the East due to some the heavy names on that side of the conference, but he does not get the respect he deserves. This year will be interesting for Richt and I would love for them to win the East and for Miles to get his first SEC Championship by beating the Bullfrogs! Nothing would make me happier! LES GEAUX MILES! :crystal:
