I think Miss St has to be the worst - fan expectations, many of your state's recruits don't qualify, you have another in state school to compete with recruits for (plus LSU, AU etc), program doesn't have the money for top facilities, and not much tradition. Atleast at Kentucky, fans care more about basketball & at Vanderbilt there's no AD dept to answer to.

Bama has to be pretty low down the list because of the administration/fans. They won't give anyone time to build up their program, and if you think LSU fans are rough, Bama fans have to be worse on their coaches.

He's Steve Spurrier. He shouldn't require time to attract recruits. It should have been automatic. Had he gone to Bama, it would have been. There's your measuring stick.

There are these things called "seasons" which coaches have to recruit between. Considering the level of talent ol' Lou left him with, it's not surprising he wasn't successful at first vs. UF's level of talent. The past two years, USC has been highly recruiting.

I thought you were out the box with saying that but I checked and you're right.....at least the class they're putting together right now.... Not bad for South Carolina.

I think he took over similar teams at both schools. Florida went 7-5 the previous year with a bowl win. SC went 6-5, they were bowl eligible but didn't go because of the brawl with Clemson. So they too could have been 7-5. And obviously people are forgetting that Florida was never anything special before Spurrier. They had won exactly ZERO conference chapionships in the 85 year HISTORY of the school before Steve arrived. Then he went on to win 6 of them over the next decade. So don't kid yourself into think he took over a great program @ UF.

That's an inappropriate way of measuring it. Coaches can go 7-5 with awesome talent and coaches can go 7-5 with absolutely horrid talent. You have to look at the individual players.

The only reason it is above Bama is because of the pressure to win at Bama. If you do not at least average 9 wins AND beat Auburn you will be fired. Bama's administration has outrageous expectations and that is why it is below South Carolina.

Tennessee is ahead of us because they have not had 7 coaches in the last 27 years. The faciilties are a wash and Tenn recruits nationally better than LSU does. It is not like there is a huge separation between 1-4 anyway in my mind.
