    Tennessee recruits better nationally because they have to. If LSU can't find the players they need in Louisiana, it certainly can in surrounding areas which we recruit very well.

    From a coach's perspective, you don't want to have to recruit nationally if you have all the talent you need near you.

    My point is even with arguably the biggest name is college coaches at the school, he is doing just "ok" with recruiting.

    You put him at Bama and he would be in the top 5 in recruiting, not top 20. Even with Spurrier there, the best high schoolers in the land don't want to go to SC.

    I agree somewhat, but there's no way you're going to convince me that UF was loaded before Spurrrier got there. They were on probation for the second time in a decade. They had just had 2 SEC titles stripped from them a couple of years earlier ('84 & '85). And the previous coach had just been fired. Now what makes you think the team he took over was loaded? The team was in complete turmoil. He pretty much took over a team in as bad of shape as Shula did in BAMA. With one exception, at least BAMA was somebody before Shula arrived. Florida never was.

    Tennessee does recruit more nationally, but right now LSU is recruiting better QUALITY nationally. Right now LSU is really establishing itself as one of the top programs in the recruiting wars. Outside of USC, Texas, Florida, and Notre Dame, LSU is probably the hottest school. With continued winning and establishing a tradition, LSU will stay a recruiting power.

    South Carolina recruiting stats:

    2005 = 28 recruits, 6 4-star, 15 3-star, 7 2-star = 2.96
    2006 = 24 recruits, 6 4-star, 14 3-star, 4 2-star = 3.08
    2007 = 16 recruits, 6 4-star, 9 3-star, 2 2-star = 3.24

    2005 was Lou Holtz's last full recruiting season. Very modest gains since.

    There are 34 players who haven't decided out of the top 85 ranked high school players. Not one is remotely interested in attending South Carolina. In contrast, 6 are interested in Alabama, even with the upheaval.

    Oh, I agree completely. I was just surprised to even see SC in the top 20 and reasonable amount of 3 & 4 star recruits.....not overly impressive but decent.
