Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Jimmy Buffett, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty

Rank as your personal favorites in order, not career accomplishments.

    Ok, I'll play along..

Billy Joel (what can I say, I'm a piano player)
Tom Petty (like a lot of his stuff overall)
Jimmy Buffet (makes me want to get drunk)
Paul Simon (good song writer, but not really my type of entertainer)
Bob Dylan (hell of a song writer, not much of a singer)
Bruce Springsteen (who let this guy in here?)

I went to a concert last week with the Houston Symphony playing Billy Joel songs along with a talented piano player/vocalist. I had forgotten how many of his songs I liked.

I play the piano a little but only know Piano Man. Any good recs for others that sound good for an intermediate player like myself?

All of them are great but according to who I choose to listen to other than when they come on the radio:

    Jimmy Buffet
    Billy Joel
    Bruce Springsteen
    Tom Petty
    Paul Simon
    Bob Dylan

In my rankings I listen to all of those less than:

    Stevie Ray Vaughn
    Bob Marley
    Grateful Dead
    The Allman Brothers
    Steely Dan
    The Eagles
    Lynyrd Skynyrd

    Just to play along:

    Petty
    Buffet
    Joel
    Simon
    Springsteen
    Dylan

Out of this list Petty and Buffet are the only ones I can say I listen to with any regularity. I think I have one Springsteen song in my probably 5000+ song library (live recording of streets of fire)

None of the others but I'd put Mrs Robinson in there for shits and grins. Probably more Dylan "songs" than I even realize but that is because someone should have severed his vocal chords long ago.

I really like Joel, Simon, Petty, and Buffett and hard for me to put them in order. Dylan is 5th for me although I like many of his songs also.

I chose these guys because I thought they had some similarities of being around for 40+ years and still going.

Also heard an extended Petty interview and didn't realize that he was 63 and had a long career pre 80's. He said that musicians in their 30s seemed really old when he started and there weren't many of them.

Dude, Darryl Hall is like 69 or 70. Still looks 40. Saw them not long ago. Great show.

A couple of years ago I went fishing with this guy who was about 26 or 27. We went in my truck. I have tons of music but he didn't like any of it. He asked me if I had any music by anybody who was still alive.

After an hour in my car, my brother in law says,"The 70's called...they want their music back."
