It was a strange, strange season last year. It may be nobody's fault. We'll see in a few agonizingly long months.

So coaching doesn't have nothing to do with it? Coach Monken has to shoulder some of the blame for last year. It's his job to get them ready to perform.

Not catching the ball IMO is on the players only. They spend countless ours on pass catching drills by their own admission on several ocassions. Go read old articles and you will find just about all of the receivers talked about it last season.

They have to go out and catch the ball during games, concentrate, look the ball in and then run with it after they tuck it away. Where the coaching comes in is more about designing good routes, teaching them how to get off bump and run, how to time their routes, how to read the defense, etc.

So if this trend (drops) continues then will you still believe that? Coaches need to be good at psychology & if their not they could get into the players heads the wrong way. That's a part of coaching too.

definitely agree with those ranking Davis ahead of Doucet. JMO, but Doucet seems to perform better on crossing routes or side screens where he can turn his body towards the ball. He's considerably less effective on fly and post routes where his speed exposes his marginal hands.

Whether or not it's fair to judge Doucet because he wasn't a starter? Well, that's debatable....... IMO, I've seen enough of him to know he needs some intensive drill work before he should be entrusted in a #1 starting role. If "hands" were his best attribute, he'd make one helluva possession-receiver.

BTW, a name that is noticably absent from the list is Courtney Taylor. CT didn't perform up to his stanadard due to the injury bug last season, but he'll thrive now that he's fully healthy. Look for a big year out of CT .... likely Top 3-4 in the conference.

If Taylor is completely healthy, why do you suppose he is flying so low beneath the radar? Or is he really a question mark, like Broussard?

not sure that he's flying beneath the radar in general, just in this particular ranking by southern pigskin.

for one thing, their ranking takes in the whole South, not just the SEC. That's prolly good since it gives exposure to desrerving athletes like Calvin johnson.

The other thing, SP in general tends to base many of it's ratings on most-recent-stats. Given that Auburn had a ton of receiver talent, CT's injuries last season, and the penchant for Borges to distribute the ball to a varied number of receivers each game, CT didn't get the number of attempts he likely will see this coming season.

He'll be the "go to" deep threat for Auburn in '06
