7 out of 10. He managed the game well, only made one mistake (the shoulda been pick 6), and was pretty good at avoiding the rush. A less mobile QB would've had several more sacks. Considering the rain, poor OLine play & average running game, I'd say he did fine. But there's room for improvement.
I kept on wondering if the QB option plays were being called that way in the huddle or if Flynn had the reigns to make things happen on his own. Playing MSU and having a lead made for more thrown away passes. Flynn didn't have the pressure of having to make big plays on every down or even every series of downs. Personally, I though Flynn ran too much and put himself at risk for an injury way too often in the game. I think you have to save those kinds of QB running plays when the game is on the line in the 4th quarter and you are down by 6 points.
I imagine the option plays were called from the sidelines. A lot of the runs were improvised, though. But I am pretty sure it was still 0-0 during the play in question. I think it was just before the field goal. Not that big a deal, it was only one play, but I thought he could have made something of it. I'd like to see him scramble behind the line and try to make a play with his arm on occasion. I only remember one. Not his fault, really, the o-line didn't give him much chance.
Well, I don't know. The TV doesn't show the receivers running their routes. The pass protection was terrible, though.
You seem unimpressed that he is 2-0. Here is the record for the last 6 QB's to win BCS NC game through the 1st 2 starts of their career Leak (Florida)= 1-1 Young (Texas)= 2-0 Leinert (USC)= 2-0 Mauck (LSU)= 1-1 Krenzel (Ohio St.)= 1-1 Dorsey (Thug U)= 1-1 As you can see, the unimpressive 2-0 record that Flynn currently possesses is a better start (record wise) than 4 of the last 6 guys to lead their teams to a title. The team has yet to score under 40 when he starts, He completes nearly 60% of his passes, has 12 Tds vs 2 picks, averages nearly 4 yards per carry (which does include his sacks), the coaching staff has enough faith in him to name him the starter, and he was named a team captain by his teammates. Yet for some reason, you have more confidence in a guy you haven't even seen yet. Being a great High School QB that gets newspaper articles written about you doesn't garauntee greatness in college. Hell, Bill Walsh (one of the greats at recognizing talent) once said Josh Booty was the best HS QB he ever saw. How'd that work out? Brock Berlin was highly recruited as well, he couldn't even start until he transferred. How many National titles do the Manning brothers own? ZERO! This guy is our starter. He EARNED that position. He has yet to give anyone any reason not to believe he will be successful. RP may or may not be a great QB for us one day. But for now, the coaching staff feels Flynn gives us the best opportunity to win. I'm gonna take their word for it since they see a whole lot more of these guys than we do.
