That's the way it is. If you don't like it stop supporting them all by not spending your money on movies and tickets for sporting events. Cancel your cable. Part of your cable bill goes into the pockets of highly paid actors and athletes. Don't even think about Netflix or Hulu. Some overpaid person will get 50 cents or a dollar of your $8 a month. Don't buy any DVDs or music. Musicians are overpaid too. Steal them. Want to go to a game. Try to sneak in. Bring your own food and drink.

Nobody is questioning his accomplishments and success. But he is no longer that guy.

    1. I think a lot of LSU's previous sub-par coaching hires were about pinching pennies at the time rather than building a strong program.

As AD, Joe Dean hired Archer, Hallman, and DiNardo...none of them a proven commodity and therefore gotten on the cheap. It took Emmert to get off the dime and hire Saban (Dean would never have). Dean also hired John Brady...enough said.

Similarly, as AD, Bertman hired Laval to succeed him...another relative no-namer. [Seems an odd hire to inherit such a dynasty and continue the momentum...hmmm]. Bertman also hired (7-5 in '02) Miles from Ok. St. U. to replace Saban and continue that momentum rather than hold out for a better coach (e.g. Jack Del Rio who was in the mix at the time). Hmmm, again...

Since the Charlie Mac days, when did LSU have it's best football programs? Under 3 coaches - Arnsbarger, Saban, and Miles. What do they all have in common? NFL coaching experience. That's what's needed to compete in the SEC (i.e., the NFL JV squad).

    2. Having said that, a coach needs to excel in 3 areas: recruiting, motivating, coaching. Arnsbarger and Saban covered all 3; Miles only the first two*. It's one thing to have talent, but if you can't maximize results with it, what's the point? Most people who compete in anything, compete to win. to be the best. to reach the top. In the SEC, it's for a division title, a conference title, and ultimately, a national title. Finishing 2nd or 3rd or worse in your division year after year really isn't much different than finishing last...it only determines if you go to a bowl and which meaningless one it will be.

    * except for QB. Other than Mett who fell in his lap, what top talent has he gone after, landed, and developed at that position? Of course, I guess when your playbook is run, run, pass, kick, you really don't need star talent to hand off the ball.

Les Miles is the Dale Brown of football. He will bring you a winning record, year after year, with a rare glimmer of hope for something exceptional, but never really delivers. Is surrounded by talent (ala Shaq, Roberts, and Jackson) but doesn't use it for the knockout blow it's capable of.

    3. Miles is not an SEC caliber coach. He has always been outclassed. He dominates non-conference foes but becomes a deer in the headlights against any decent competition from the conference. This is manifested in his clock management and play calling.

    4. The deadly cocktail of stubbornness and fatigue will be his demise. It has been, and always will be, his way or the highway with the offense. No ultimatum to "let go of the reins or else" is going to work with him. And after all these years, he's entered that comfort zone that so many of us have with our jobs. His early years were full of vim and vigor, with something to prove, hence his conference and overall successes from '05-'07. Hit a slight slump from '08-'09, but rebounded from '10-'12. The nosedive started in '13 and I don't think he has the stamina at this point to pull out of it.

    5. Let's not live in fear, folks. "What if we get someone worse?" Well, you know what? We might also get someone BETTER!
10-win seasons might be great in other conferences, but in the SEC it don't mean SHIT! This program has turned the corner from those dark days of the past and I really don't think/expect the admin/TAF to allow that to happen again by hiring a lesser quality coach. Miles has peaked and done all he will ever do, just like Mora did with the Saints.

Time to move on and move up.

You can see what he can do with the right coordinators.

Pelini, Fisher. He had great teams with those guys. John Chavis great defense almost every year. He stopped us cold in 2011.
