Six Ole Miss Recruits Not Eligible!

    WJTV Channel 12
    Monday, August 2, 2004

OXFORD, Miss. – When Ole Miss head football coach David Cutcliffe greets his 2004 squad here Sunday, August 8, some members of the incoming signee class will not be reporting.
“We have several signees who failed to meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements,” Cutcliffe said. “Therefore, they will not be reporting with the rest of the team.”
Cutcliffe announced Monday that Ole Miss signees not meeting NCAA initial eligibility requirements include wide receiver Tony Burks of Gulfport, Miss., (Harrison Central); defensive end Dion Gales of New Orleans, La., (John F. Kennedy); running back Lavarus Giles of Benoit, Miss., (Ray Brooks); linebacker Peria Jerry of Batesville, Miss., (South Panola); wide receiver Corey Kizer of Memphis, Tenn., (Melrose); and defensive tackle Alton Pettway of Bay Minette, Ala., (Itawamba C.C.).
Ole Miss returns 48 lettermen off last year’s team which finished 10-3 and earned a share of the Southeastern Conference Western Division title with LSU. The Rebels ended the year with a 31-28 victory over Oklahoma State in the SBC Cotton Bowl Classic.

I'll tell ya one thing, Tony Burks is a HUGE, HUGE loss for them. I was at the Miss-Ala high school allstar game a few months back and he was just owning the entire alabama defense. He is a MONSTER receiver that would surely have played this year.

    Holy cow

"The two Ole Miss players sat in a hallway Wednesday morning alongside Memphis tailback Derron Parquet, who is facing an arson charge for setting his father's SUV ablaze in June. Parquet, an LSU transfer, was kicked off the team late Wednesday."

Why do you set your father's SUV on fire? Why would he then press charges? Why would the team care? And if it happened in June, why only dismiss him yesterday? Has he been trouble up there before?
