I believe they just need to agree on the guaranteed money. Once that is settled he will sign. Last year's #1 got about $27m, JaMarcus is looking for around $30m guaranteed.

That's actually an astute insight. If Bama Boy doesn't want to become another Akili Smith, he should sign and report to camp. There's going to be such a learning curve in becoming an NFL QB, that the last thing you want to do is to come to camp late, fall behind, and never catch up. We've seen these countless times with other QBs, who were able to squeeze more money and signing bonuses but washed out and never got a chance at a second contract. Bama Boy is going to have enough difficulty with the NFL, where he'll have to learn how to play in a West Coast Offense instead of simply chucking the ball downfield and hoping his superior WRs can pull down those passes.

Or, look at what happened to Phillip Rivers. Due to his holdout, Brees remained the starter and so Rivers had to sit on the bench for those seasons even though Rivers was all ready to go.

Now, if we were talking about a position such as a RB, where there isn't such a learning curve, then its not a big deal if the RB comes late to camp. Look at LaDanian Tomilison at SD.

I guess you are saying the same for Brady Quinn. As of today it is being reported he is at the point as JR as it comes to signing a contract or even farther since he thinks he deserves more money for some reason. And he was the 22nd pick in the draft.:dis: It is very common for a top 10 pick to most of camp while waiting for the amounts other top picks get in a way to set a benchmark.

BTW have you even heard how JR is doing adapting to the West Coast offense so far. Caoches and teammates are amazed at his ability to pick up the offense, lead his team, and his rocket arm. It is not like he is not going over his playbook while they are waiting for a deal. I think you need to update yourself on your new favorite QB.:hihi:

The last thing he wants to do is accept the money right now and not have his guarantees in place in case of a sudden injury,etc...That would be stupid to ruin everything he has worked for over the years for himself and his family.

I would worry more about the fallout of a #22 pick holding out because he doesnt think it is fair that 21 teams didnt want or need him with their teams. Brady can wait longer if he has to because he knows he wont be injuried riding the bench for most of the season. He could get some reps later in the season but come on. Another attempt for BitterND to make a common practice into something BIG.:dis:

IF it's so important, which I agree it is, that's on the staff to pay him what he's worth and get him there. At least he'll be rich and "Behind".

If missing the first 10-20 practices determines if someone will make it in the NFL, that person was a marginal prospect, no matter WHERE they were drafted. If JR was injured in his 3rd practice and couldn't play for the next 3 weeks would you advocate that the Raiders just cut their losses and release JR?

bhelm explained it how it is. if jamarcus signs a contract before say, laron landry had and it ended up being the same amount, he made a huge mistake.

the lower picks set the bar, then jamarcus gets top value. its how it goes and jamarcus and his agent are quite aware of how to play the game. its up to the other teams to sign their picks first while al davis preps his checkbook for a lot of zeroes.

the non-mighty quinn still thinks he was the 2nd pick overall. poor bastard.

What's the nature of the bet you lost?

And no need to get worked up about JR missing some camp. This is just the normal process if the pick isn't signed before the draft.
