Just a few months after Saban took the LSU job, he was asked if he was ready for the passion of Southern college football. His take was that he didn't expect the passion to be much different than when he coached at Michigan State in the Big Ten...

Saban learned quickly...that folks in the South tend to take their college football more seriously than the rest of the country.

A couple of weeks ago at LSU's spring graduation ceremonies, where the commencement speaker was President Bush, Saban made an early entrance into the LSU Assembly Center to see some of his players graduate.

"When Nick walked in, row by row, the entire place stood and gave him an ovation," Bertman said. "You know Nick, he's uncomfortable with that. He raises his hand and acknowledges them and sits down."

And President Bush's reception?

"It wasn't as loud as Nick's," Bertman said with a laugh. "Of course, Nick's had a better year than the President." :rofl:
