True, but I've seen nobody remotely like that. Opinions differ. There are more political types than just liberals and conservatives anymore, moderates have a big share and there are about three flavors of each. http://www.people-press.org/2011/05/04/beyond-red-vs-blue-the-political-typology/ The polarity has increased and it is moderates who have declined. Both conservatives and liberals have gained ground and the gap between them is the smallest since 1992. http://www.gallup.com/poll/166787/liberal-self-identification-edges-new-high-2013.aspx
At the age of 87 I don't think Edwards wants to take on a big challenge like a Senate race against a long time incumbent. I thing he is running for Congress sort of as a hobby to keep himself busy and if he were to win he might even live long enough to serve a two year term.
He wants to thumb his nose at the FBI and a couple of US attorneys who thought they had finished him. There is influence out there to be peddled and nobody is better at it than EWE. Think he is worried about another 10-year racketeering investigation? Edwards is a scoundrel and is only useful in keeping another republican out of the House.
Do you think he has a chance to actually win? I saw a chart of how much money all the candidates had raised and Edwards was near the middle of the list.
Edwin has a great chance in any race he runs. He has name recognition out the wazoo so doesn't need much. He reminds me of Earl Long running for congress in 1960 just to show people he still had it. BTW Earl was even more colorful than EE and died of a heart attack just after he won. If you want to get an idea of classic La politics read "The Earl of Louisiana" by AJ Leibling. You will laugh so hard and maybe cry for the state too. Earl was a scoundrel but one of the few who really loved the state and tried to do what he thought was best for it.
This is all about democratic politics. It's not important that Edwards wins, just that he runs. Edwards will bring out many democrats in November, which will help Mary Landrieu . . . but you know it's going to cost her!
It's a little bizarre that you say he wouldn't be a good senator because his daughter got knocked up. That doesn't mean he's a poor father or doesn't love his family. I don't know him from adam but it's a weird way to attack a guy.
