I agree. Rest him this week. Play him sparingly in the SC game. If he has to come he will be able to- he played with a broken ankle in the state game his senior year of high school.
Ya know, it's a beautiful thing. The last couple years I've been completely at ease with our depth at QB. From what I can tell we've got some good ones in waiting. It's nice to be comfortable about the outcome of the game regardless of who starts at QB. That said, let RP take the keys this weekend. I think this is a great chance for him to get the starting experience he needs to grow as a QB and he also gets to establish a tempo and manage a real game. They can't teach that in practice (or at least to that extent). I think RP could even handle SC if we needed him to, but I'd rather see Flynn in on that one IF his ankle is healed. Maybe put Flynn to see how his ankle feels, but only in a very limited capacity... Even if he's healed, I wouldn't let the competition know it. Darth Visor is a crafty coach, that game could be a tough one. Either way I feel we'll be well off. The last few years it's really nice to see LSU with the type of team it's been so deserving of for so long. :geauxtige
You are totally correct, dude! By no means was I thinking he should start even hurt. That would be stupid! :dis: My point was if he could get on, play a few sets then get off, just so the log indicates he started (as long as he is able to play). I don't know why, but I feel that a 5 yr senior quarterback should have all the starts. I'm not for a moment taking anything from RP, he showed what he could do last Saturday. There aren't any doubts here about RP. He will be great! :geauxtige
We’re already in excellent shape with one, AJ McCarron, for the ’09 class too- he's projected to be one of THE top QB’s in the Nation in that class. He was at the VT game and will be back for Florida and Auburn. He’s been to two of our camps and VT was actually his second game, he’d come to LSU/Alabama last year....oh, did I mention he’s from Mobile? With Flynn, I trust our coaches. Miles doesn't have a "Must practice by Tuesday....." rule like some coaches. He bases that decision on each player. Example, he said Steltz didn't practice Mon/Tue and I think Wed, to allow "Healing" but, where he was, he could practice Thursday and be game-ready.

According to information on from this website, the treatment is likely a cast for 6 weeks!!! I am really concerned. http://orthopedics.about.com/od/sprainsstrains/a/syndesmosis.htm "What is the treatment for a high ankle sprain? Syndesmotic injuries tend not to heal as well as more common ankle sprain, that is why trainers and coaches of athletes are often concerned about "high ankle sprains." Your orthopedic doctor will first determine if the injury is stable or unstable. If the injury is stable, then the high ankle sprain can be treated in a cast, usually for a period of 6 weeks. If the injury is unstable, then a "syndesmotic screw" can be placed between the tibia and fibula to hold the bones in proper position while the syndesmotic ligament heals. The are several methods of fixation of syndesmotic injuries, all with potential risks and benefits. It is a relatively safe and well-tolerated surgical procedure. Patients will have the screw in place for about 3 months while the syndesmotic ligament heals. Patients should understand that if they walk on the leg while the syndesmotic screw is in their leg (even after the ligament has healed) the screw can break. The reason for this is that there is normally some motion between these bones when people walk. Therefore, some doctors prefer a second operation to remove the sydensmotic screw before allowing the patient to walk. Other doctors will leave the screw in and allow it to possibly break. The reason being that there are few reported problems with the broken screw. Either way, you can talk with your doctor about this if you need to have surgery for a high ankle sprain."
I think it's fairly straight forward - if he can play without creating further trauma to his ankle, then he will. But even then, I bet he only starts and RP sees lion's share of playing time. If he is still hobbling and it still impacts his mobility at all, I don't see the point. I'm sure the coaching staff will protect him. I have to say, I hope they protect Lee's redshirt. It'd be nice to have that ace in the hole in the coming seasons. I have a good feeling about RP and if he takes off he may not last through his senior year...
