The new DC at Georgia is Martinez. He was the DC at Central Florida and Van Gorder actually reported to Martinez while they were both there. Garner was in place at Georgia before Richt even walked in the door. Martinez was also a team-mate of Richt at Miami. It amounted to a no win situation for Richt because they both produced good results. Martinez just sent both Sean Jones and Thomas Davis to the pro-draft as well. Both were first team All-Americans. So, the only difference between the two professionally is that Martinez has already held the DC title.
I would suspect that Edwards is still very much in the mix. It just means that things are still not quite settled in the coaching ranks.
The latest rumor has Edwards going to the Dolphins. Of course Saban isn't commenting. I guess nothings certain until Les publicly announces his coaching staf.
THIS WOULD BE GREAT NEWS!!! Rodney Garner is the best recruiter in the SEC. You can look at the players that he recruited to TN in the late 90s and that is a direct link to TN's National Championship. How does Jamal Lewis, Tee Martin, Cozy Coleman, Deon Grant, Travis Henry...........................and on and on sound. He was hired away by Jim Donan at UGA and he was the only (or one of the only) guy Richt kept from that staff. If you notice, the talent level at TN dropped significantly after he left, and the talent level at UGA soared. This year is the highest TN has ranked in recruiting since he left. You should hear the talk shows in Knoxville today. They are celebrating just the chance of him leaving GA. TN would rather us have him then UGA, so they can go back and start dominating the Dawgs again. Let's hope he is on board soon. :geauxtigs I also just heard that Richt cancelled out on coaching the HULA Bowl this weekend. I think he sees his program is falling apart!:angryfire :angryfire
A dawg posted on TR that Garner has withdrawn his name but didn't give any proof or state how he knew.
Garner pulls out http://www.nola.com/sportsflash/local/index.ssf?/base/sports-6/1106090644117260.xml&storylist=
Re: Garner pulls out Seems he has wanted to stay at Georgia from the beginning as it seems. I think there is a reason why he has been at UGA for so long without anyone giving him a shot of moving up...... Great recruiter, thats it, IMO
