I bet Carr is not happy. He restructured his contract over the Summer. One of the clauses said that all of his assistants would stay on staff for at least a year after his retirement.
That's probably a lot to do with why and I don't blame him-no Carr loyalists. He was telling Carr, " Shove it, it's a Big House but iss ma house".
I guess they remembered they put another clause in his contract as well. Carr cant just get pissed and leave because he cant claim his 300K in July if he is not affiliated with UM in some manner.
After what happened at Louisville, I can't blame Rodriguez on this. In that scenario, after Petrino left, the new coach had to keep the assistants and it was an unmitigated diaster as that infighting between the coaches helped to divide and derail that team. I don't think Carr really wanted Rodriguez, and probably wanted one of his guys- somebody like Iowa's Ferentz. But, Carr probably lost credibility and influence with the Michigan AD after how badly the Miles thing went down. It was obvious that Carr was spearheading the anti-Miles faction at Michigan, and the whole sailing story made the AD look foolish and then they had to go after Rutger's Schiano only to have him turn them down.
Thats typical, wants his own people and a fresh beginning. :tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye:
Lets see... these assistants are really good at being overrated against weak opponents and losing bcs bowl games. Where can they go? Oklahoma!
I suspect he will probably rehire a couple of Carr's assistants if they interview well. My guess would be those closest to and most proficient at recruiting. Plus it wouldn't hurt RR to have someone that knows the landscape at Ann Arbor and where the land mines are buried.
we don't need any Michigan or Big Ten rejects. Do we not remember Tepper? Michigan defenses couldn't stop good offenses consistently the last few years. I'm happy to see Pelini leave LSU, but replacing him w/ a UM reject is not a good answer....replacing him w/ any Big Ten coach is a losing formula in the SEC
I think Carr restructured their contracts to ensure they get an extra year of pay because he knew he would be retiring after the season. I'm sure he knew there would be no guarantee that a new coach would keep them on staff. These coaches will get paid through the end of their contract. Not a bad deal if you can get it.
