Go back to my original post, I am not debating his numbers. Someone wanted to understand how anyone could not like JR. I gave three points where I have not seen improvement. They relate to basic football knowledge and decision making. I hope you are right on JR improving and playing Sundays. Frankly, I only follow LSU college football so I don't have a lot of experience with spotting future NFL quarterbacks.:yelwink2: He will need to improve in the three areas I listed to have a chance.
Let's not forget that Rohan and Matt had outstanding receivers who not only made catches that should have been made but also made catches that should not have been made. I ask, how many times have our current receivers made those "remarkable" catches?
if anyone watched vince young last year they were convinced he would never be a passing qb. guess who leads the entire nation in passing efficiency? thats correct, mr young. I surely would have never believed even though i picked UT to win it all before the season started though Im still not sure they do it. Jamarcus Russell is ranked 36th overall in efficiency. not too shabby for his first full year starting all things considered. point being is it seems fans are expecting too much too soon. the fact we had no dependable receivers the entire year makes this even more significant. add to that not much of a running game the last 3rd of the season and its even more promising. no one can truly evaluate this kid without taking in all factors. if anyone would have told you bennie brazell would be the most dependable receiver all year, the o-line would underperform and the the running game would be deficient I would have predicted a 7-4 record. As it stands, we have nowhere to go but up in the development of our offense. Alley will be back, our WR's cant get any worse and our Oline will run block better allowing the passing game to be more effective. thats my guess. and for once itd be nice to see one receiver have yards after they make a catch. bowe was hit in stride almost everytime yet he has problems with his legs cooperating. Early seems to want to play defensive back it seems. Buster was often injured. Not sure if Xavier will ever develop as a true wr. all this hype from this year's group has been pretty much just hype. i'll take my 11th win and run to the hills if we can somehow beat miami. flynn is playing the entire game so it will be interesting.
I'm just glad people pointed out the OL and Running game may have attritubted to Russell's problems. Using V. Young was a good comparison bc last year VY was horrible at times. Fortunately, JR has a better release than VY. He showed brilliance at times, and hopefully those times will be more frequent. That said, I'm very curious to see what MF does against Miami.
Can you imagine what his stats would be had those guys actually caught all of the passes that they "should have". True enough, it drives me crazy when he does some things, like taking a sack instead of throwing the ball away. But, we all have to admit that this year he has matured so much over last year. I feel like he's taking alot of the heat when there are others who can share the blame. Just my opinion.
