They already think they're still National Champs but if they really believe what they're saying you'll get to have the last laught for sure. 2 years?? Sheez
Are the players on campus today? I just got word from a mobile co-worker who supposedly talked to JR's high school coach who said Les Miles was in Mobile yesterday trying to talk Russell and his family out of him going pro. He was laughing saying how desperate we are and that JR was already at home making plans for a wednesday press conference and wouldnt be returning to LSU. Dumb bammer.
A coach would be a fool not to try to convince him to stay. If Miles didn't do it, I wouldn't think much of him, and I'm sure he has tried to convince him to stay. i hope he actually pulls it off, but I wouldn't blame JR in the least if he left. He earned his keep around here.
i was fine with him leaving a few days ago. Now with all this mother denying stuff going on I am hating it. GIVE ME A DAMN ANSWER. ugh...this is worse than the few days before the BCS selection show, wondering if the Rose would still take LSU
Actually, I think a coach would be a fool not to look out for the players best interests. Convincing a player to stay if you know he is a sure fire 1st rounder and it isnt going to be any better next year is a mistake. Most coaches get scouting reports and draft info for their players who are considering going pro. If that info is positive they relay it to the players. If not, they should advise them to stay. Convincing JR to stay for selfish reasons is wrong for a coach but of course its fine for us fans. :hihi:
The coaches job is to do what's in the best interest of the team. Just because he's a potential first rounder doesn't mean it's the best thing for him to do. I'm pretty sure he will go, and like I said, I wouldn't blame him. But is he ready for the pros? I don't know, although I'm sure the pros could get him ready faster than we could. That being said, I stand by my statement that a coach would be a fool not to try and convince him to stay. I believe we have a good chance at the MNC next year with him, better chance than without him. Miles' job, whether anybody likes it or not, is to try to win MNC's. Yes, do it with class, honor, and integrity. But he's not doing anything dishonorable by trying to get any kid to stay and get his diploma, and develop even more as a player in the meantime.
Well I heard that Miles was trying to talk him in to staying and if he did stay that LSU would do everything it could to promote him for Heisman. That seems logical to me, however we all know that JR is as selfless a guy you'll ever find in the college ranks. I don't think that he'd forgo the millions just so he'd get a chance to be Heisman, but I do think that he WOULD forgo the millions to help his TEAM get a crystal ball.

The coach's job is to do what' in the best interest of the team; however, that includes looking out for players on an individual basis too. At minimal, show them both sides and allow them to weigh the pros and cons and come to a decision. Wouldn't expect a coach (Especially Miles, with his class and character) to talk a kid out if it wasn't the best thing. It's a tough one for me cause I think (As good as he is) another year in college would allow him to be even better while being the stud; on the other hand, his stock is high now so why wait- but entering the draft means big contract with a lot of pressure while still getting refined........not that all qb's entering NFL don't have a lot to learn.
