That open date in Sep would be perfect for a Neb or Mich game. It will not happen though. Seems like we get punished because no one wants to play us.
Unlike some here, I never was in favor of restarting the Tulane thing. Tulane should move to 1-AA in football and beating the hell outta them may be fun but really accomplishes nothing in the eyes of the folks who vote. Yeah, they went undefeated under TBowden a few years back but that will happen about as often as Haley's comet comes in view. With one of our OOC games committed to Tulane, we're left with only 2 or 3 game options to pick up a quality opponent. The Tigers shouldn't waste their time with Tulane. When you lie down with dogs, you stand a good chance of gettin' fleas.:nope:
Sat, Sep 16 TBA Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA It's strange that I am not in the least bit worried about the game coming up or the two following that one. I shouldn't even be able to think about next years schedule at this point in the season, but I can.
I look for that date to be filled with some I-AA opponent. This news release of course will be buried somewhere in a release about how we are in negotiations with USC for a home-and-home, which will of course never come to be, but it will be a nice destration while we tell you that we are f---ing our SOS for the 3rd time in 4 years.
But, a strong finish like a 12-1 sugar bowl title over a 10-2 W Va can give us two things possibly: 1-As high as a final #2 spot in the polls (assumes Miami loss to whomever they play) 2-A possible top--dare I say it--two spot going into next season. Yes, LSU loses some fine players this year, but the most recognizable ones to the pollsters (offensive skill position) return. I count Alley as a returning starter b/c he was a starter before injury. If Texas can lose people like Derrick Johnson and Ced Benson and start the year at #2 thanks to a strong 1-loss finish in 2004, why the hell not LSU? These things happen and even a less than outstanding SOS doesn't mean as much. I know we keep saying "no way" to various things but...no way does an SEC team start the season in the top two, go undefeated, and fall out of the top two by season's end. Not saying we go undefeated next season, but you get my drift.
We could possibly be a preseason #1 if Vince Young goes to the NFL. The reason why Texas was #2 after losing Derrick Johnson and Mr. Benson is because they had an experience QB coming back.
