In my neck of the woods luvthat_TIDE is what we would call a "whickerbill". That is polite language for whatever you may want to insert.

Yea, except we didn't use swimming scholarships to give to football players...

We didn't do that.......who says that a swimmer can't play football. Many football players also play baseball. See how it worked.

I've heard that time and time again, and still the logic behind that notion...I just don't get it.

Here's a player, with an offer to one school and Bryant offers him one also. He has the choice to play at one school, or an opportunity to play for Bryant, and he chooses Alabama.

    And that's Bryant's fault?

No, that was the player's choice. You can't fault any player that wanted to be a part of the program under Bryant even if he could have played elsewhere. The notion he was giving scholly's to kids so they wouldn't play elsewhere isn't taking in to account it wasn't Bryant's choice where he went to school...it was the players.

Rival fans shouldn't get upset because a player decided he'd rather be a back-up at Bama instead of a starter at their school.

    Saban Visit With Phelon Jones

Sounds like Saban's visit with Phelon Jones didn't go too well. Here are excerpts from an article in today's Huntsville (Ala.) Times:

Saban put a big move on Phelon Jones last Tuesday, but he was unable to to talk him into reconsidering his commitment to LSU after visiting him at his school. Tony Jones, Phelon's father, said his son would not take an official visit to Alabama and would not host Saban for an in-home visit.
(looks like Nick is having some trouble getting inside people's homes).

Tony Jones said "Saban's sales pitch is 'Look, I'm the head coach and I also coach the secondary. Where are you going to find that in America? I coach it for a reason, because I'm the best there is at it. I turned the program around at Michigan State, I turned it around at LSU, and I have more to work with at Alabama' (note this for the record next Fall when he is making excuses about the lack of talent he inherited at bama).

Tony Jomes was unmoved. He said, "we enjoyed talking to him, but he's a little overconfident."

We are in the same boat, PT. Different directions, but the same boat.

Bryant had the recruiting battles won. So, we put a better team on the field.

Due to NCAA sanctions, Auburn and LSU had better teams on the field. (granted, a lot of LSU's teams were talent that Saban convinced to stay in state...pure recruiting.)
