Great posts by yourself and Houtiger! Let me just say that I hope Shula gets another shot because I think he can be successful. I've always thought that Shula got the raw deal kinda like Nebraska cut Frank Solich. You could even throw Gerry Dinardo in there!:hihi: :grin: I thought of him as I read your post but I think he lost the team at some point, not really sure what happened there except LSU was good until his coordinators left him and Tepper showed up. Sometimes its overlooked that new coaches have to win or do win because of a previous coaches players and recruits as well as their own. If Saban wins or loses this year he will get the credit or the blame but how much of that is totally his fault, or insert any coach anywhere. I think 04 might've showed Saban at his best because we lost quite a few players at key positions after 03. I really believe 2003 was somewhat easier than 2004. Keep in mind if Saban went to the NFL and took a different job other than the Dolphins, lets say he went to the Bears. Remember that scenario, He could of just as easily coached or won a superbowl this year. I'm not sure what it says about him to quit the Dolphins after one year however? Maybe the pressure was too great? But I'm willing the pressure will be pretty bad to succeed at Bama and again in the SEC so he'd better be able to handle it!

So much focus on the HC, but it is truly the assistants that get the coaching done. This is why so many coaches fail when moving on to that next job, their old staff doesn't make the transition.
AND - he succeeded very well despite the fact that not a single assistant followed him to LSU. That demonstrates something...
