Other Universities don't particularly care that Saban is so interested in money. Why should we? Unless the man is guilty of not doing his job, we have no right to criticize him, not even on moral ground. The pursuit of more money is by itself amoral, ESPECIALLY when you're pursuing money legitimately through a job. Morality only comes into question, in my opinion, when you conduct yourself in an immoral fashion, such as to spend your money on hookers, or cheat on your wife, or something like that. Saban hasn't broken a single rule on paper. Our complaint against him, in reality, is not that he goes where the money goes (oh the horror), but rather that he's leaving the dolphins for the same reason that he left us.

That's why the name of the thread is, "Are we acting immature?"

I once worked with Wayne Huizenga for about 2 years in 1997-98. I was on the BoA of the Broward Economic development Council with WH and frequently saw him at BEDC meetings and related events. I also managed his Blockbuster account for a major communications provider for the 3 years prior to the Viacom merger and occasionally negotiated with "H Wayne" and his team. His management teams in his various businesses are all top-notch, respected players from a business perspective.

To say the man is "all business" is an understatement, because he is all class from a public persona. But behind closed doors, WH plays hardball - he's one of the original bareknuckle brawlers, and not a man to be screwed with, IMO.

I don't pretend to know him well enough to contact him regarding something like this, only well-enough to comment on the man's personality. He doesn't like to "negotiate in the media" as has been suggested, nor can I imagine a scenario that would result in a raise for Saban under the current circumstances.

The Dolphins are "always for sale" , as are all Huizenga properties at any given moment. WH sees it for what it is - a business. He'll hasten CNS's departure if he feels CNS is not 100% committed to the job, and WH has a very looooooong memory. WH is definitely a believer in "what goes around, can be made to come around again"

If Nick does go to Bama, I think I'll ask WH to become an Auburn booster :hihi:

If what you say is true, then Huizenga is exactly what you imply. A smart guy who knows what's business and what's personal. He didn't get rich by luck. What Saban is doing now is all business. We're treating it like it's personal. And we're wrong.

Huizenga granted the request according to the Miami paper:

Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga and coach Nick Saban met at the team's Davie training facility late Tuesday afternoon. Following the meeting, Huizenga said Saban's decision on whether or not he would remain as coach would be deferred until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Saban is mulling a lucrative coaching offer from the University of Alabama.

''Coach asked if we could defer the decision until 10 o'clock tomorrow morning,'' Huizenga said. ``Then he went into several reasons as to why he wanted to do that. I agree 100 percent with his reasons. I understand more now what he's thinking about. So I'm happy to give him until 10 o'clock tomorrow morning.''

Huizenga said that he would meet with Saban at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dolphins facility.

Wants the world to revolve around him, wants everyone to pine for him one more night.
Man this is a great story.... I am going to miss it when I am over and more importantly I am so glad LSU is not involved in anyway....
Makes for great reading.

PS Dont tell me LSU is in this because Bama will become so good. They play football just like us, and Bama beat Saban 31-0 in our barn once. Its the SEC. They put on helmets just like Auburn, LSU, UGA etc.

Agreed. IMO he is as good as gone to Alabama. It will be interesting to see the reaction from the crowd in his first game at Death Valley.

Sadly I will probably be out of school by that point but I won't be surprised to hear a lot of boos. I think he deserves a lot of praise for bringing us a national championship and loading the cupboard, but he is a mercenary plain and simple.

LSU did more for Saban than Saban did for LSU.

LSU put Saban on the map.
LSU made it possible for Saban to snake millions of dollars from Dolphins and it looks like it is LSU that will enable Saban to make $$$$$$$ from Bama.

Saban never showed any appreciation when he left LSU for what LSU and it's fans did for him.

If Saban runs to Bama after failing in the NFL.... F-Saban.

BTW If Saban goes to Bama it will hurt Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee as much if not more than LSU. Saban recruited Louisiana well but don't think 90% of that had to do with LSU more than Saban. Saban may get a few from Louisiana here and there but he'll also weaken the recruiting for Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.

Oh yeh he is gone.
This is playing EXACTLY how he bailed on us and his other teams.

At the facility, leaves in his car no comment to the media, has his current team in his office all day. Man its to the T. Of course he has a lot of practice...
He is waiting until tomorrow so he can get his family out of town and announce from Bama tomorrow.

That is his MO. Leave town then say he is leaving. Remember he waited until he got out of town for the bowl game to give us his good news.

Classic Saban.
Sad thing it wont be the last. I am afraid our bama friends will be having the same party in a few years.
