1. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

OH, my bad. I was thinking the Christmas special was the movie. I know what you're talking about now...finally having a New Year's Eve rye and diet coke....clearing up the thinking.

I'll be watching for the movie as well. Are they making more seasons??? I would go see Helix if it meant seeing the TPBs. Have you heard Helix? Damn, they're bad.

Perhaps there should be a Trailer Park Boys forum on here...or at least a Roundtable thread. :hihi:
  2. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

OK here's why I don't think Saban goes to Bama for 50 Mill.

It's a nice state but between the Auburn fans and Bama fans the Red elephants would have to borrow money to come up with that kind of coinage. They'd have to have an awful lot of Bikini car washs to pay that.

THEY don't have it to offer. Even by some Jethro siphering them dogs don't hunt.
  3. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

If I was an Alabama student (which I could have easily been due to this nice scholarship offer they gave me)....I would have transferred over this break.

    This is absolutely ridiculous.
  4. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

With all of the attention being given to the supposed $10,000,000 buyout in the bama contract, I began to question if there isn't a buyout in the Miami contract. $4 mill for Shula, buyout for Saban, contract for Saban.........

If they keep spending money like that they will end up like TTU was a few years ago. They once cut Leach off from sending mail to recruits because he went over budget.
  5. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

I think it's just absurd. What if Saban does get this offer and accepts? Then, he has a mediocre career at Bama (say, 7-8 wins a season). Will the other coaches in the country with better teams start demanding this kind of scratch? Remember when LSU agreed to pay Saban $2M? People were worried about the direction of coaches' salaries...I guess they were right. The NCAA might have to set a salary cap for coaches now...

On the other hand, maybe Bama is planning to no longer buy players...this might free up that money for Saban. But it will make his recruiting harder. Or, maybe he'll be required to write the checks from his own checkbook...? Hmmm...
  6. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

Why? Supply and demand not applicable for some jobs?
  7. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

IF Saban were to take this job, it would then either reflect failure or cop out on his part in the pros, or he just goes for the highest bidder, or both. If he does go to Alabama, I don't think the Tiger fans would receive him as well everytime Alabama comes into town to play.

The snowball effect of college coach salary race is just going to get worse and worse, since college football is such a huge business and revenue source for universities with big and successful programs, being fuelled by the commercialism of TV and commercial contracts.
  8. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

and your point is? hell, he would be an IDIOT to pass on that!
  9. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

And it would be the second time that Nick pushed the salary ceiling. His jump to LSU for $1.2 million greatly affected the quick jump to 7-figure salaries in major college football. Bama doesn't need to be ashamed, they are desperate and I don't blame them. But damn few schools will be able to follow suit this time. That kind of cash will put tremendous pressure on Alabama, it's money that won't be spent elsewhere, and we will find out just how deep Bama pockets are. It may be a make or break situation for them.
  10. Re: Saban to be offered 40-50 million contract...

Sabans agent shopped him around in the Pro's for a couple of years until the right situation came around.
I believe feelers are being put out by (said) agent, since Sabans success in Miami hasn't been all that great, but it must be nice too know that given his lack of success in the pro's, he is still a very hot prospect.
I believe Saban will be flattered with this kind of offer, but lets face it, with Bama being one NCAA violation away from a possible "Death Penalty", I can't see Saban viewing Bama as a RIGHT SITUATION anytime soon.

    Just my 2 cents.
