But had LSU been Auburn- going undefeated in the SEC and getting shut out of it- I'd have been sick and I'm sure had it been Bama.......geeez, another civil war.

(And I know the SOS comes back to haunt us sometimes in the SEC OOC games but still)

Actually, the year Auburn went unbeaten, was the first year AFTER they took the SOS out of the BCS formula. Some polls still use it to determine ranking, but until that point, it was an actual component to the BCS formula. So was quality wins, which was also taken out. Basically, the two areas that USC fell short to us in '03 were removed from the picture. And tthen amazingly, the following season USC gets in while Auburn gets shut out. Nobody cried like PC did though.

No system is perfect, but I like to think the BCS tries to take some of the bias out of the polls. There is just too much bias both regionally and by name (Notre Dame, Michigan, etc.) for me to think that the polls are the best way to get a National Champion. I know the SEC has the best football conference, but unless we play the good non-conference teams from other BCS conferences, we aren't doing our part to show the voters that. Auburn's non-conference schedule that year was a joke. They didn't have one single win they could point to outside the SEC to show they belonged and the other two teams did. What happened to Auburn, they did to themselves. I agree that in most years the SEC schedule itself should be enough, since other teams in the conference will have those signature wins needed to propel the confence in the eyes of the voters.

Along those lines, I was glad LSU got VT on the schedule next year.
