5 years is the longest contract under Louisiana law.

True, but you can include an automatic rollover clause in the contract, which makes it an indefinate contract. And I'm sure there are other ways to get around that issue.

Maybe we can give the lawmakers more Sugar Bowl tickets to get them to change this law? Just kidding:D

    Saban won't leave

Even if an NFL team offered Saban double his salary for next year, he isn't going to leave right now. There are several reasons, first of all that his family is very very happy here and this is a crucial time in the lives of his children. High school kids need stability and no one knows more about this than Saban--and no one cares more about it. Another reason is that money isn't everything in a job search--and big bucks in the NFL don't necessarily translate into long-term money because you can be in and out so quickly. Saban wouldn't be able to command a Parcells type contract, and he might end up out after two or three years--and he would have torn up his family for a short-term gain.
And EVERY year from now on there will be lots of good coaching openings in the NFL. The parity almost insures it. Coaching in the NFL is a carousel. I don't think Saban is interested in that at this point in his life. Look at Spurrier, who stayed in college for ten years before bolting. Saban may even see what Spurrier is encountering as a reason not to bolt at all. There is no better college coaching job than LSU right now, since Notre Dame (even if the job were open) has instituted such tough academic requirements that coaches will not be able to win there. Plus it's FREEZING there! But other than Notre Dame, there isn't a better spot than right here. GO TIGERS! Nick C'est Bon!

Saban will enjoy getting the fattest contract in the history of college football more than he would enjoy jumping to the NFL IMO, and this is JMO. the type of contract LSU is talking about is lots of money and benefits to insure he is set for life, and it will be the biggest in all of college football. top dog. Why would he leave? he said before he enjoys coaching college. So why would he leave if he is set up for life? and is at the VERY top?

Also, at LSU(like many places) Saban doesn't pay for his house, cars, or memberships to clubs, right?

A multi-year contract doesn't "lock him" into staying here. As long as he has a $0 buyout, he can walk away from a contract at any time. Is there any talk of adding a buyout clause?

I think it is rediculous when a coach is able to just walkout. If a University wants to fire a coach they must pay a penalty to terminate the contract. Well the coach should have to pay penalty if he wants to cancel the contract. Why even sign a contract if one party can void the contract with no penalty.

I agree with you but we were pretty desprite to get Nick down
    here a few years back.

But I do hope they work out a 10 year deal with a buyout clause.

    :)
