That rule of thumb would apply to 90% of the so-called Teams

But a true TEAM ... and one that is willing to pull together and work as a team ... can get away with it ... I seem to remember another team back in the late fifties with two QBs ... they were pretty good too

The game was played differently then, name one program in the last 20 years that won a championship with 2 alternating QBs, and dont say UGA 2002 SEC Championship, becuase Shockley got no pt after the first game.

Its really obvious, there will be no qb that separates himself because the thing with Randall is that he's mature, Russell isn't quite there yet. there is no comparison in their abilities. I hope Russell does show more maturity because the reason he's not starting over Randall isn't because of physical ability, you won't hear Saban say that though.

Spurrier used a 2 QB system for a few years there at the end and managed to lose a NC or 2 because of it.

But I do agree that if any team can get away with this, it's LSU because of Saban and our mighty defense. The wins may not be as pretty this year, but a win is a win is a win. I'll take 10-7 wins all year long.

I have given Randall a hard time on this board. Harder than most have been on him. But for the time being, mixing in the 2 QBs should work fine for the Auburn and surely the MSU game. If Randall shows he can't handle the pressure once again versus Auburn tomorrow and has that look on the sideline like he lost his puppy, then Russell will start vs. MSU and for the rest of the season. Even if Randall does adequately well tomorrow, I still think Russell starts versus Georgia.

    Name me one team

ALL OF THE FOLLOWING (n the past twenty years)

    A defense like LSU's ...

    Speed like LSU's ...

Strength and stamina in the trenches like LSU's

    A coach like LSU's ...

Silly rabbit ... rules (of thumb) are for fools

Read what collegefootballnews.com has to say about this:

As a heavy consumer of sports talk radio, there are certain topics that I know from experience get drilled to death. One is any run-in between fans and players. Another is labor strife in pro sports. (Sports seems to be the only area of the economy where rich people are supposed to forego the effort to get richer, but that’s another diatribe entirely.) Pre-game “bulletin board” statements (and the ludicrous extremes that some people will go to find insult in innocuous verbiage) are a third. However, in the pyramid of topics guaranteed to get microphone jockeys in a lather, quarterback controversies sit right at the top.

The question I have is: why? Why does there have to be a controversy? Why can’t a team play two quarterbacks? Why can’t Mark Richt play D.J. Shockley for a few series? Why can’t Tommy Tuberville get Brandon Cox some meaningful snaps? Why can’t Nick Saban keep playing Marcus Randall and Jamarcus Russell and let them decide who the better player is by themselves? Is it a bad thing to get a look at the guy who is one injury from being under center? Is it a bad thing to force defenses to expend practice time getting ready for two different quarterback styles? Is it un-American for two guys to compete with one another and let actual results resolve their competition?
In the realm of lame “MUST PLAY ONLY ONE QUARTERBACK!!!” arguments, the lamest is the “the rest of the team needs to follow one leader” canard. Think about it. Are we really to believe that the other ten offensive starters are so emotionally fragile that they’ll break into tears and crawl into the fetal position because a new guy is calling the play in the huddle? Do linemen block any less hard or receivers run any less fast because a new quarterback is in? In a nutshell, there is nothing inherently wrong with playing two quarterbacks. There is something wrong with playing the wrong guy and the surest way to determine who that guy is is to play both.

regardless of what the outcome of two good QBs... like Tennessee has... I just dont see Marcus Randall's talent. He is a decent QB at the scramble but I still dont see any aspect of his game as good as JaMarcus other than he has taken more snaps.

I believe it is a very balanced discussion, I give my view, someone else gives theirs, and so on.... You take aspects of your opinion and display them and debate with others. Sorry I have a problem with a decision of Coach Saban. We can't all agree, if so, there would be no use having a discussion board. I have responded to different people everytime, just expressing why I feel the way I do. If you dont like it, dont read the post anymore.

As you have seen, this is a particularly sensitive subject for tirk.
