I really felt like this might be some of the problem but then Pete C. breaks that mold....maybe he was too far on the other end of the spectrum.

Saban is a "Control freak" and this is not good for many adults organizations, but, IMO, there are a lot of pluses for that style of leadership too- namely, expectations are laid out and eveyone knows what to expect and what they're accountable for.

 

Could not agree more. I said when he left he would end up regretting it.

 

I think you guys need to give Saban at least a year or two before judging him. Didn't the dolphins win 2 games before he took over? or something like that.
And by the way, Jimmie Johnson's Cowboys went 1-15 his first year, and i'd say that ended up well.

 

Last I looked, Saban has one winning season behind him and this season just started. Sure they are losing right now, but they have been in every game with a chance to win. It is not Saban, they just need a QB.

 

uhhhh, no he doesn't. that place is a freaking resort organization.

I can't believe that the guy who once said "It comes down to whether you want to coach a bunch of college students or overpaid babies" (paraphrasing).... will last long term in the NFL.

 

Bill Belichick went 36-44 in Cleveland. Guess he just wasn't cut out to be an NFL coach.

 

Bowden, Paterno, and Osborne to name a few more. But gotta give Saban more time. As stated earlier, Jimmie Johnson didn't win right away either.

 

Realized after I posted it that there were in fact many. However, there are even more who had the best possible situation they will ever have and went on to the pros.

 

I'm all for giving the man time. However, he is in the AFC East. There is another Belichick disciple coaching the Jets and Mangini has done a bang up job thus far of turning that team around. Pennington being healthy also helps. The Pats are still good last I checked. It's going to be an uphill climb to contend in the AFC East. However, with the money and power Saban has, if Saban doesn't make the playofffs by next year, I'd say he is in serious trouble.

 

Saban wanted the challenge of competing at the highest level and he hasn't had enough time to get the team that he wants in place.

As for whether or not he'll be successful in the pros, it's way too early to tell. Just look at Bill Belichick. He was fired after only a few seasons at Cleveland. Now he's considered an NFL genius.
