After reading the salaries that Red posted this morning, I think that you guys have the best bargain in the SEC. Better pony up some cash or he will be gone after this season.

All the SEC coaches who make more than Les have won championships and earned their incentive raises. When Les wins his, he'll get his $2 million. LSU has ponied up for the best paid coordinators in the conference.

Took me forever to find it but here are the new salary increases approved this year. The link that Red provided didnt take these into account. I thought Henson would get a raise since he is one of the top recruiters in the nation.

Exactly, it's huge exposure either way. It will be very messy for Bama if it's a bust. If Saban wins big then congrats to Bama for the payoff. I just don't see it happening.

Red, thanks for posting the salaries. After reviewing and now knowing what Bama is paying their new football coaching staff, I wonder if University Presidents will be rooting for Saban to succeed? :hihi:

If a $32M contract is the new baseline for top head coaches, college football in trouble. Five years from now it will be $75M, and the disparity between programs will worsen. When the level doubled from $1M to $2m, the magnitude of change was not near as great. Tack on the spending for program facilities, assist coaches and staff, stadium improvements, etc, and the costs are reaching levels where only select schools will ever be capable of meeting such demands. Programs like Miss State (even Ole Miss) will be left in the dust, almost to the point of being akin to lower division schools.

In time, I predict, the NCAA will be pushed into creating an inter-league super conference of big money schools for football.

I have been hearing about LM succeeding LLoyd Carr since before he left OSU. I suppose its possible, If nothing else I think the offense would open up a little. I know that LC is very conservative when it comes to offensive play calling. The talent is supposed to be there, but all too often it seems like he reverts to the 3 yds and a cloud of dust mentality. Those games always seem to end up in the L column. So on the one hand LM in AA would be good. (for us). On the other hand, I would hate to take y'alls coach away. As I posted earlier today there's a bunch of good people on this board. Probably won't happen tho, They usually promote from within. Thats how Gary Moeller and LC both got the top job at Michigan.

That's what needed to happen years ago...and, it's virtually what we are seeing in the BCS conferences. Quite frankly, if a school can't afford to field a sports team, it shouldn't. Considering UAB loses close to 6M a year from its football program alone I can find myself very much behind super conferences. Heck, considering the cutbacks in student aid...seems like a decent idea to direct those funds elsewhere, eh?
