This just proves that we don't need to create threads about Saban because he will create them for us.
My grandfather was a sharecropper and an off shore worker. The Texans on the rig who called him a coonass didn't use the term as a synonym for Cajun, although that is what it has come to mean.
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/16593260.htm HOW COMMENTS BECAME PUBLIC A Miami Herald reporter e-mailed an audio file of Nick Saban's off-the-record comments to a radio host. BY ARMANDO SALGUERO [email protected] Three reporters representing The Miami Herald, The Palm Beach Post and The South Florida Sun-Sentinel met with Nick Saban on Jan. 3 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the day after he left the Dolphins, and in the ensuing 45-minute interview, the coach made a handful of off-the-record remarks. One of those remarks included explicit language and a slur against Cajuns, and became public when Miami Herald reporter Jeff Darlington shared a recording of Saban's words with a South Florida sports radio host. More . . .
Saban, tired of all the turmoil has taken the job as defensive coordiator at Texas, said redneck ditchdiggers all over Bama are mad at him:
What's your point? Why shouldn't it be there just as long as any other post? Do you find it offensive?
thanks for the post letting us know how it leaked. i was thinking it was a reporter in T-town. I thought "how stupid is this guy, he'll never get access to Nick again." But finding out it was a Miami reporter made sense. doesn't need access to saban anymore and might as well get off his own parting shot to the coach. awesome!! but the coonass remark in no way offends me, i just think it's funny how some of the national media is jumping on him. eggshells, nicky boy, eggshells.
not me, however in general, due to pc, certain reverends, among others, you cannot even reference this word. Not my rule, not my game.
3 of the 4 on the panel agreed that it will hurt Saban's recruiting for a few years. One said kids will forget about this stuff next year. Then Skip said coaches like Tuberville are liking their chops right now and they will not let the recruits forget Saban's public image.
when i was living in memphis, many people thought "coonass" was derogatory to blacks. id imagine most people in the country would guess that way too.
