Don't believe everything you read on wikipedia, that's why they require references now.

They absolutely would. and they would be making the exact same mistake that the NFL made with the AFL. and look what happened.
I'm for anything that brings down the NCAA and the BCS.

The NCAA wouldn't have much to say about it if the superconference told the NCAA to go suck an egg. If the SEC and ACC held that gun to the NCAA's head, they'd cave in a heartbeat to protect their income.

But that deal will never happen as long as the big conference Presidents keep the BCS alive, so they can hoard all the bowl cash for themselves. Not much more powerful than greed.

Having watched up close, the ACC destruction of Big East football, and then after some time, bring Va. Tech, BC, Miami and FSU down to their sorry level, I'd be careful about doing business with those people. The ACC will never be competitive in football, because their core group has FOUR schools sited within a 30 minute drive from each other. Also, Maryland has no recognizable recruiting base, and Va. Tech will always get the talented kids that can't get into Virginian. If you take on the ACC, you add at least 4 Vanderbilts to the football schedule. Who needs that?

There simply isn't enough major college talent around to feed Duke, Wake Forest, NC State and Carolina. That's why Carolina went out and hired hoodlums like Butch Davis and John Blake.
