Simply put, I would like your help to do away with the BCS.
If we could put all rivalries and differences aside for one moment and look at what just happened to an SEC team. Auburn is being denied the right to play for a national title, after going undefeated, and playing in an SEC championship game.
Truth be told.... if it was you, you would be on the outside looking in too. I would be furious that it happened and would try to help in any way possible.
Unfortunately, I'm not a millionaire, or an SEC president, or Mike Slive... I am just a fan whose only weapon is a voice.
Maybe it is futile, but I have written a simple e-mail that I would like for you to copy and send to your president, or perhaps you would like to write your own. The point is, I know of no other means of action. The presidents of the SEC have power, they are the sounding board of Mike Slive, and it is in his best interest and their best interest to work for the good of the schools in the SEC.
So, I'm asking if you could do this. Simply cut and paste then email. It isn't so much the meaning of the message as it is the participation.
One more favor..... could one of you please post the email address of your president? It would be a big help.
Thank you all in advance..... below is the email:
As an alumni of ( insert school here ), and a fan of the SEC, this is a letter I thought would never need to be written, but the injustice to an allied member of the SEC has me greatly concerned.
As I am sure you are well aware, Auburn is being denied the right to play for the National Championship, even though they have went through the entire season, including the SEC Championship game, undefeated.
Under the current BCS system no SEC team is safe from the same fate, including ours. Year in and year out the SEC has proven to be the toughest conference in the land, this year included. We have five teams ranked in the top 25 and potentially 4 teams who can finish with 10 or more wins. Thirty percent of our games have been decided by five points or less. This tells you the nature of our conference.
It is my duty as a fan of this great conference, and your duty as our president to lead the charge for change. This system is broken. Even though it has fulfilled its duty to pair the number 1 and number 2 BCS teams in a championship game, the question remains did it get the right two? That is a question which seems to be asked a lot this time of year.
I am sure that this is a debate with which you have had to deal with on more than one occasion, but sir, the time to make a change is now. Do not let a situation like this occur again. You along with the other SEC presidents and SEC commissioner Mike Slive owe it to not only us, but to the players and coaches, to find a system that is just.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
( your name )
