I think Blake Mitchell is a pretty good QB with solid fundamentals, also don't forget who's coaching him as well.

Its not Colt Brennan's fault that Hawaii's defense sucks.

Gotta disagree about Colt McCoy with ya, he only put together one of the greatest freshman QB seasons in the history of college football. He took over for the one of the greatest QB's at Texas and still got the fans to love him. Granted he does play on a very talented offense but ya gotta give him some credit.

Another thing about that list is that probably half of that list will be gone by mid-season not because they have to trim it down but because the QB's will have down seasons.

I have to disagree. Heck, he was benched and replaced for more than half the season. He didn't make it in the top 10 rankings for QB's in the SEC. While his stats look good, they came against teams like Wofford, Florida Atlantic and Ms. State. When he came up against real teams like UGA and AU, the team only scored 17 points and only once was it a TD by passing. By game 5 or 6, he was on the bench.

You put Ainge up there as well...yet, while he started the season hot, when they came to the meat of their schedule he fell apart as well making a lot of stupid mistakes.

Are you giving them credit simply because of Cutcliffe and Spurrier? While that makes sense, you can't make chicken soup with chicken feathers. IF they do have good seasons, it'll be because of the development they've had this fall. Spurrier has been all over Mitchell this fall for making the same type mistakes. Ainge, on the other hand, is learning an entirely new offense where mistakes are easily made.

Name QBs who DIDN'T struggle against the best teams in the SEC. JR threw 3 interceptions against Tennessee and 3 against Florida, and didn't lead us to a touchdown against Auburn. And he was pretty much undeniably the best QB in the SEC last year. With Ainge and Mitchell, if you look at their bodies of work, they were among the most productive QBs in the SEC. With mitchell, you have to look at his rate stats since he didn't have that many attempts. His rate stats, btw, were better than those of the guy who replaced him. He was replaced because his offensive line was terrible and he couldn't escape the rush all that well. Syvelle Newton was superior to Michell ONLY in his running skills. In every other way, Mitchell was a superior QB. It just so happened that Spurrier needed a running QB behind his porous offensive line.

And, to this date, there is no evidence that has changed. Still a bad OL.

That being said, JPW had a horrible line in front of him and ranked in the top 10...when Spurrier says his QB isn't doing well, he isn't. And, SOS has said that many times this fall.

I thought Mitchell was benched following his arrest for his role in a bar fight.

If it was because of a weak line, why did Mitchell get the nod for the last five games- did the line "Gell"? Dey Gellin?? You gellin? :hihi:

    Serious question. :thumb:

It was in play, but not the deciding factor...at least, that's the way I understand it.

Actually yeah, Spurrier has said he took Mitchell out to get someone back there with better escapability, and that when the offensive line improved towards the end of the year, he put Mitchell back in.
